Coach Search Options after Autry

Virginia under Bennett is what I’d point to. I don’t think they ever had more gifted defenders than most of the offensive talent they faced in the ACC. They were never known for having particularly gifted athletes. But his defense consistently shut teams down.

… because he usually redshirted most of his croots, so by the time they were on the floor regularly, they already had multiple years playing in his D system.

That’s completely infeasible and a nonstarter in today’s portal era.

Which is prolly a bigly part of why he chose to hang em up.

Well, I don’t want to live in a world where we can’t play soul crushing defense. Lol

I remember listening to a radio broadcast of a football game during the GRob catastrophe. Syracuse got the ball back with about five minutes left, down two TDs. Coach Mac said something like “we’re still in this, all we gotta do is get a TD and recover an insides kick here!”

We had two coaches with totally opposite personalities. Coach Mac was endless irrational, bordering on insane optimism. JB is endless sky-is-falling pessimism interrupted occasionally by what sounds like an insincere attempt at providing hope.
If someone could post the clip of the Boeheim PC where there's audio problems and he swats the mic, that would be great.

Hiring Luke Murray would give Syracuse a modern, well-connected coach who blends strong basketball pedigree with contemporary offensive thinking. As an assistant at UConn Huskies men's basketball, Murray has been part of one of the most successful and efficient programs in recent years, helping develop a dynamic offense that emphasizes spacing, shooting, and player versatility—areas where Syracuse has lagged. He also brings elite recruiting ties across the Northeast and nationally, which is critical for re-establishing Syracuse as a consistent talent destination. Beyond tactics and recruiting, His mix of youth, innovation, and exposure to championship culture makes him a compelling candidate to modernize Syracuse while still respecting its tradition.

Long way to go but this was the classic star player out from the higher seed leading to everyone jumping on the underdog bandwagon and then they lay an egg (at least to start).
USF players have looked nervous and/or deer in headlights for most of the 1st half. I think they relax eventually and make it a game. Down 10 now.

If you take away Gerry McNamara’s legend status at Syracuse he would never in a million years be even remotely considered for our job.

His offense is one of the worst in the entire NCAA. It even got worse his second year than the first. They don’t score. They don’t shoot threes. They don’t shoot free throws. They are horrid.
He got in the tourney by the skin of his teeth by beating a bunch of crap teams. I will say he did good turning Sienna around but he’s a million miles away from being a serious candidate for a big school.

I don’t know about yall but I’m tired of terrible stagnant offenses. I want an offensive minded coach who can help us score big. Shoot threes. Get to the line. Fast break points. All of it.
I know winning is winning. But let’s get some excitement back in the Dome!
I don't disagree with most of this but I will say:

ORtg: 224th last year to 184th this year
DRtg: 186th last year to 63rd this year

Got significantly better on both sides of the floor. They just scored slightly less because their defense was good enough to slow the other team down.

Ya they will definitely play better, Hodgson is a good coach and they have talent. Moment likely a bit to big to start. Lville just needs to keep them at arms length moving forward and avoid a major run.
