Coach Search Options after Autry

I'm not all in on Gerry. I'm just not as impressed with sitting at the right hand of the Father BH.
No problem with that. I’m not all in on anyone. But I do think there are guys with more sustained success who have also made the dance. As I said earlier, if Siena lost in the MAAC championship would we want a guy whose best finish was 3rd (regular season, not one game) in the 24th ranked conference? I wouldn’t. But not sure who else we may have talked to. Just think people are going overboard based on a few games.

Hubert gets fired. UNC hires Gerry. We hire Martelli.
Jack Nicholson Yes GIF

I don't disagree. But in fairness to gerry, he did win the tournament and gave a great showing today. But I'm not all in on him by any means. Unless, the NIL package is out of this world compared to someone else's. But i don't know about any of that right now. Just a lot of talk.

So I know I’m butting in here but it was some time ago - I actually had an unexpected run in with John. It was not a pleasant experience and was extremely turned off by the arrogance. It was at a pro sporting event where my wife got me tickets as a gift and we just so happened to be sitting next to him. This was quite a long time ago but it’s always sort of been interesting seeing all the donations and incredible gratitude offered - never said a thing all these years but it was hard to forget.

They have done a lot ego or not and I agree, despite all the crap and infighting going after them or others isn’t good business or helpful. I can however see with what I experienced where what has occurred to date makes sense if that is just who he is. All that said thanks to what they have given and will continue to give and hopefully they work out things with BB and collaborating with more large donors.
I’ve never met the guy. Never met any of the big donors. As an outsider, I find it funny that one hand we hear about how awful SU finances are (depending on the poster) and SU has to beg for money and new boosters or they can’t compete AND on the other, there’s a handful of posters who go the extra step in slagging him any chance they get.

Won’t
Wont it be nice to wake up in the morning and hear rumors that we did actually bring Martelli in for an interview early. If BB was the right hire and JW did his job before he shouldve at least been on a list
That was the talk here, wasn't it. He would have to be the leader in the clubhouse right now if he is on the list.

If you take away Gerry McNamara’s legend status at Syracuse he would never in a million years be even remotely considered for our job.

His offense is one of the worst in the entire NCAA. It even got worse his second year than the first. They don’t score. They don’t shoot threes. They don’t shoot free throws. They are horrid.
He got in the tourney by the skin of his teeth by beating a bunch of crap teams. I will say he did good turning Sienna around but he’s a million miles away from being a serious candidate for a big school.

I don’t know about yall but I’m tired of terrible stagnant offenses. I want an offensive minded coach who can help us score big. Shoot threes. Get to the line. Fast break points. All of it.
I know winning is winning. But let’s get some excitement back in the Dome!

Bad Dad again.

If all you knuckleheads want to do is piss back and forth at each other, I will ban each and every one of you from this thread and any other thread talking about the coaching search.

I'm sick of it. And so are a lot of other posters, based on my DM's.

Quickest way to lose posting privileges is to keep up the name calling. We mods don't get paid enough (re: anything) to have to deal with this.

Final warning. Discuss, don't snipe.
What happened?

If resources are equal, Gerry is a more capable coach than Hodgson. He has the right demeanor, he actually can control a game from the sideline. He can play call. Hodgson does none of this. Hodgson has played in atrociously skilled leagues and has been the bully with more athleticism and physical ability. His teams don't think the game because they never have to. Notice when they were good today? when they got down by 23 and just turned it into chaos, they were drawing dead in the half court. I'm not basing this off one day of viewing, I follow and watch the AAC closely. He won with more talent, not coaching. His teams also play with an edge that borders as annoying at best, dirty at worst (ie Enis leg lock today).

never have understood why he's viewed as the slam dunk and Gerry the reach. Gerry has more upside, and the lower floor when it gets painted almost the opposite. There are concerns for Gerry, sure - but it's going to be up to those around this place to give him the support ($) he needs.

Hodgson is what he is - a talent accumulator with no in-game chops. He'll raise the floor of any program he goes to because of his ability to get talent - but If he only has equal talent in the Big East, he's going to be in for a rude awakening.

This is based on nothing. Sorry but Hodgson coached at 4 different schools and was successful at each.

Gerry has coached at two, and his first stint as an assistant, for us, was the worst time in the last 60 years for the program.

He might turn out great, but Hodgson is so much more proven.
And Hodgson turning us down tells the market (i.e. other candidates) that we don't have the money to compete.

Boeheim did us no favors with that crap on TV, about us being "bottom 3" in the ACC in NIL.

We have MANY long time knowledgeable people who were directly involved in our efforts who shared LOTS of information about it all.

If we pick Gerry, it's still a huge risk. I'd rather take the Offensive Guru assistant from UConn than Gerry, to be honest. Better technical coaching talent.

Putting my coping hat on after accepting that Hodgson won't happen:

Let's say the coach was someone other than Red the last three years with the same results as him. Wouldn't many of us say, "GMac did things the right way. He left, was successful as a head coach, made the tournament with a team that won 4 games before he got there, and stayed even with Duke for 35 minutes. He has NIL backers. Let's give him a shot."
