Coach Search Options after Autry

I’m sorry but staking McNamara’s candidacy on 35 minutes vs Duke in INSANE.

It was a nice performance. But that’s all it was. Hell, Red beat UNC last year. What did that mean long term? I’ll spoiler it… nothing.

Underdogs play well all the time. It doesn’t mean the coach is qualified to run a P5 program solely because of it. I’m don’t recall Dick Tarrant going on to a successful career after his Spiders beat SU in 1991.
Yep. Look how it worked out for Tobin Anderson after knocking off Purdue.

Hopefully, Shertz. If that is not an option that Skinn. Murray out of the two UConn assistants.

Either way, if we are unable to get Shertz it appears to be a big drop off from there.
Oh! Just that little bitty matter of Schertz being an option or not! What makes you think Murray was ever a possibility?

I'm sure the same post has been made dozens of times in this thread, which i have only read limited pages of, but here is my opinion.

D2 Final 4/Runner Up (4 times in 6 years)
to Indiana St (Conference Champs in 10th best conference)
to Saint Louis (Regular Season Champs in 7th best conference)
to Syracuse

Siena (Post Season Champs in 25th best conference)
to Syracuse

There just seems to be at least one and maybe two steps missing in GMac's progression.
Someone who has raised a program multiple times, and progressively tougher levels seems to make much more sense in a dire situation for our pro.

And this doesn't necessarily need to be for Schertz but for another hire outside of the program as well, although those names seem limited right now.

Now I understand if "Coach Comp", and "NIL" had limited us, then we are limited in terms of attractive hires and GMac makes sense if you can't get more experience.

But if Comp and NIL is not a significant restrictor, we should be looking for someone who has made more career progression than GMac.

Short term benefits like an extra million or two in NIL, or initial ticket sales should be totally irrelevant in the decision. It's who more likely can make us competitive in the next few year (#25-#40 type team that is not on the bubble).

I will say one advantage for GMac, is if we had that moderate success for a few seasons under him, this appears to be a destination for him. And that's can't be a certain for another hire. But I think it has to go first to the guy we think has more chance of turning this around ... and you have to consider results for that.

1. Schertz
2. Martelli Jr

If you can't get one of those guys our pull is horrible.

List should have been

Schertz
Calhoun
Hodgson
Martelli

I do like Olen as well but I will leave him out

You would have to get someone on that list.

this thread has some entertaining characters popping in and out. I could never imagine there was such a vast wealth of folks that knew how to run an athletic dept and had the magic juju to find the perfect college basketball coach all while making their millions posting in this forum. Imagine that
Yup! If Blair put out a statement tomorrow that said the Sky is Blue we would have clowns from our fanbase here saying he’s wrong.

Someone help me out . Are there no ncaa tourney game threads ? I can’t find them if so .. where would they be under ?

Just say you want Schert, Skin, Hig , TMj. Just not Gerry. Stop raining on his accomplishments. Grow a pair

Just imagine if Red beat Houston, we would never have started this thread. Close losses are important and show you are a true winner
This thread started in December 2024. Many of us knew way back then we’d be here right now.

To be specific, this thread was started after we lost to Georgetown on 12/14/2024 in the Dome to fall to 5-5. It was obvious back then we were headed for a bad season.

1.5 seasons and 16 months later we’re getting very close to knowing who will take the helm to lead Syracuse basketball.
