I'm not typically a glass half-full kinda person, but I think most posters are viewing this all wrong.
Putting aside Autry's hire, we ended the season knowing we would need a new coach and luckily, there were some good young options out there.
McNamara was likely not in consideration initially, but his success this year cannot be ignored. He, of course, gets bonus points here for his time on The Hill (both as a player and coach). I think we all saw how hard his team played, and given the absolute half-azzed play and coaching we got as the season ended, that really resonates well too. We all know there are some negatives also (e.g., relatively little head coaching experience; comes from a tree of unsuccessful coaches and systems; Siena is the premier program in the MAAC [along with Iona]).
So we are either going to land a nice coach from outside of the program (my preference), or a hometown guy, with a winning track record, who seems to be on the rise.
The delta between basketball coaches is not nearly as big as many want to believe. Success is mostly a confluence of circumstances. I think whoever we get will be an improvement on where we are now, and that's what most important for the time being.
