Coach Search Options after Autry

first, we haven't brought in anyone from Siena yet. second, the 9 million is not correct. Thamel said we were in the top third if not higher with Gerry.

Hope so of course but it's hard to understand why. Surely (1) some $$ was held back last 2 years bc lack of confidence and (2) some donors may be more tied to gmac than Autry but those 2 buckets seem insufficient to make up the apparent increase in NIL. Other potential factors I suppose are the legit threat to "go outside" or exasperation from new depths of sucking but in the end it's still hard to understand why the same general donor group is suddenly flowing at 1.5x-2x.

I would say it shouldn't be. But from what I have been told by people that would know, it is. The donors didn't obviously have confidence in the last coach. Can't say I blame them. And even he got a step up. I know of one booster who was asked to raise 5 million on his own ball. And he isn't alone. I don't want to keep saying the same thing but once again, I was told that money is coming out of the woodwork. And quite frankly, I don't know that Gerry would have got the job without that knowledge. BB has said that was going to be a big factor in the hiring of the coach.

I've mostly seen people saying he would be a good role player or bench player. The idea of multiple Siena players is getting the most pushback.

what would happen no matter who the coach was if our donors did that? At this point, while he hasn't done one thing as a coach, people are looking to nit pick and fault with everything they can think of. Does anyone here really believe that Gerry is going to flood his starting and playing time with Siena players. Hold your hand up right now if that is what you think he is going to do so we can hold that to you later on? Personally, I don't care who sits at the end of our bench. Gerry wants to win. He knows better than anyone here what it takes to win at this level. He played at it. He isn't going to be playing a bunch of Siena guys. No offense to them. This is exhausting. I'm waiting for the post that declares it's time to end the Gerry experiment. It just didn't work out.

He’s been coach for almost a full day, and he has nobody other than Siena kids signed up to come play at Syracuse… plus, he still hasn’t named any assistant coaches, he doesn’t have a GM in place… what a disastrous hire, right?

As soon as you realize that there is a group of people that frequently post on this board who want to be negative - regardless of what is actually happening - it’s easier to have fun reading some of the nonsense that gets posted here.

Never said you were a hater but people are already making us Siena Orangemen like he’s going to take the walks on with him to. I think he’ll probably take Doty beyond that I have no clue or what he will do with the current crew of players

I think Doty would be a useful player in any league. Star don’t know about that but I could see 6th/7th man to change the pace and physicality of the game type player.

Agree. See my post above. Gerry has to kill it with the transfer portal. We hired him for the NIL right?

I think that with better coaching, we already have a bunch of guys who are better than what they showed last year, and better than what we will have to pay for similar talent in the portal.

If you have Nate Kingz, Sadiq White, Nait George, Tyler Betsey, Akir Soare, Kiyan Anthony and Fennell, that's a good foundation for the roster. No sense throwing them all away.

I don't care if we keep Freeman, because I don't like his attitude. I don't think Anthony is that important to keep if his Dad doesn't put in a bunch of money.

Then go get a top Center, another combo guard (Doty?), and a really good SF. That's a pretty good team.

I am self-aware enough to know I should step away from the keyboard, but what the hell:
For weeks we have been told by insiders that the main reason we should go with Gerry (or Hop) is because donors were lined up to give millions more to one of those candidates. Then as soon as we find out he is getting hired, instead of pumping us up about all the money and the great players and coaches we are about to get, people here (nobody specific) either disappear or tell us to just basically chill out and go with the flow. Now, I personally don't need immediate news, but I wish that people who wanted this hire would be as convincing about the NIL or the possible players/coaches now as they were the last couple weeks.

Believe it or not gmac was a solid recruiter for us but had a uphill battle trying to close the last few years due to JB.
