Coach Search Options after Autry

There do seem to be a few posters in a few threads in this forum and the recruiting forum that seem connected on the Siena side. It seems a given about Doty, Folefac and Moesch would come

Doty, Folefac, Moesch, and someone mentioned Shoats, who I guess is out of eligibilty. I just don’t think using 25% of your roster on MAAC level guys, based on maybe one game vs P5 competition, is the best use of resources if we want to compete in tha ACC. If you do, so be it.

the most will be 3 of 15. all 3 can play acc even if the 13, 14, 15th player. which doty won't be. i think he'll be like the 7th man.

I would say it shouldn't be. But from what I have been told by people that would know, it is. The donors didn't obviously have confidence in the last coach. Can't say I blame them. And even he got a step up. I know of one booster who was asked to raise 5 million on his own ball. And he isn't alone. I don't want to keep saying the same thing but once again, I was told that money is coming out of the woodwork. And quite frankly, I don't know that Gerry would have got the job without that knowledge. BB has said that was going to be a big factor in the hiring of the coach.

Understand. Struggling with the logic a bit when juxtaposed with Autry year 1 but appreciate it.

I kinda doubt these guys would want to come sit at the end of the bench. If (and it’s all just rumor now I know) they come you’d have to assume GMac talked to them about his plans. I’m sure he would tell them they have to earn pt. But his simply asking them would seem to indicate he had some plan for them, no?

Yup. Before that season started, Red’s staff honestly believed Carlos was going to be Tyler Ennis 2.0

With GMac who gets what minutes will all be determined by performance on the court (both practice and game time). If you don't execute and give the effort you're not going to see much time. His teams seem pretty cohesive and work well as group. He'll get more out the group than the sum of the individual parts would warrant.

Any carry over from this years team will have to buy into a new mentality. It'll be interesting to see who fits and who doesn't.

We don't know that for sure. Easier to do at Siena. Not as easy here with higher paid guys, a legends son, etc
We hope so but will need to see him sit the first lazy Kiyan effort to believe it.

He’s been coach for almost a full day, and he has nobody other than Siena kids signed up to come play at Syracuse… plus, he still hasn’t named any assistant coaches, he doesn’t have a GM in place… what a disastrous hire, right?

As soon as you realize that there is a group of people that frequently post on this board who want to be negative - regardless of what is actually happening - it’s easier to have fun reading some of the nonsense that gets posted here.

Technically, he isn't the coach yet.

It's a 15 man roster. If we have 3 or 4 guys come over from Siena, it isn't that big of a deal.

If they were coming from southeastern Missouri would that be okay?

Ok...wrong but ok. I remember these threads back when he was here recruiting and it was just as funny then as it is now. Gerry was out fishing instead of recruiting. JB having a foot out the door and not connecting with recruits had nothing to do with it. All Gmacs fault. Some of yall are trying too hard at this.

Absolutely, I wouldn't expect them to be starters. But, I wouldn't mind having a few from Siena, for their experience with Gerry. A few left over from last year, guys like Sadiq, Kingz, Kiyan...that are ACC level players. And then fill out the rest of the roster with high quality transfers that can compete for starting positions. Realistically, it seems like it would be difficult to recruit more than 6 or 7 guys here, even with a lot of NIL.

I think Doty has some intangibles our current players don’t have, I saw a lot of role players this year JJ was a turnover machine and the wrong times and George is George. Can’t wait to see what’s in store

Funny Providence was the only P5 team that offered him.

I don’t believe he was on anyone’s radar until he left Chittenango for Cushings academy for his junior year.
GMAC had been recruiting him since he was at Chitt and he committed last September and signed in November. Kid said he signed because GMAC was the kind of coach he wanted to play for, was a winner and could make him better. Also GMAC built a strong relationship with his family.
Like Doty, he identified the kid when he was quite young before anyone really started to pay attention.
For what it is worth, he was ranked 14th best point guard nationally by 247 sports when he signed.
And from highlights I have looked at, he can score from anywhere. Has a nice 3 point stroke.

Hope so of course but it's hard to understand why. Surely (1) some $$ was held back last 2 years bc lack of confidence and (2) some donors may be more tied to gmac than Autry but those 2 buckets seem insufficient to make up the apparent increase in NIL. Other potential factors I suppose are the legit threat to "go outside" or exasperation from new depths of sucking but in the end it's still hard to understand why the same general donor group is suddenly flowing at 1.5x-2x.

Oh trust me I have a life you don’t need to worry about that. Syracuse sports is something I’m overly passionate about at times is all. So yes, it does make me upset from time to time.

There is also the fact that Red closed off the program to the outside which definitely pushed away a significant chunk of donors.

I’m honestly really excited to go to the first home game next season. Seeing who we get out of the portal will really jump start that excitement even further.
