Coaches on Hot Seat

True, Syracuse has great tradition and historical relevance. Also true, that’s ancient history at this point. Not sure anyone cares very much when they’re looking at a job offer.
Tradition still matters. But the reason we should be able to afford a proven coach is that the ceiling on basketball revenue is tremendous with the Dome and a fan base hungry for a sucessful team again. Our first year in the ACC, we sold well over 20,000 seasons tickets and got massive crowds over 35,000+. No other program can match that. The revenue potential with a renovated Dome alone can help to pay for a proven coach’s salary and give him a bigger staff. And when I say proven, I’m not talking about P5 stars like Danny Hurley or Scott Drew or Rick Barnes, I’m just talking about one of the top guys on the mid major level like Josh Schertz.

Ehhhh I think we’ll agree to disagree here.
We are a top 10-12 program…still. We aren’t a blue blood but we are tier below.

We have a unique arena that is quite literally one of kind. That’s the fanbase has proved will show up and sell out 35k.

We have a natty and numerous final fours and a bunch of elite 8s and sweet 16s

We have put numerous players in the NBA. Some really good damn players. Numerous hall of famers. We have rich history and tradition

There isn’t anything else going on in Cuse. Cuse basketball IS IT. They are the hot commodity in the winter in upstate NY. You win here and you play here. You are teated like a celebrity

You have the Melo center

The only thing that will hold some coaches back is if they are money hungry. We aren’t gonna pay our head coach like a Kansas, Duke, UNC or Kentucky. We are well in the top half of the league for NIL per Wildhack. And there are some rumors that we spent $9 million on this team. It’s clear we are serious about basketball. We just need a coach. Lastly we can bash this team all we want. I truly think this team is talented. If we had a legit coach, this is an NCAA tourney team that could make a Sweet 16. I still believe that. We just have a completely inept coach. Like a reallllly bad coach lol

This would be a great post in 2017... ten years later, not so much. Almost none of this matters anymore. Totally different landscape.

We had about 2,000 people at the last game. We're sooooo far away from 35k that anyone considering this job is likely not even considering that as a possibility. I think the damage of letting Boeheim coach 5+ years past his expiration date + forcing a continuity hire is much more significant than the average CNY fans thinks.
