Coaching Changes

this would be disastrous, Nunzio was McCord's QB coach when he set the world on fire last year. What's different this year is Angeli went down injured and none of the backups are any good or ready. How can you blame that on the QB coach? The QB coach can only do so much. If Angeli transfers, this program has completely cratered and hit rock bottom.
Both McCord and Angeli were experienced P4 QBs who transferred to Syracuse and needed limited development. This year with Angeli's injury it appears that the staff was not good at developing QBs so a change needed to happen.

One of the biggest issues was not having a QB below Angeli with a lick of college experience. This was a disaster waiting to happen.

Well, Angeli only had a few licks of experience.

As of today, Collins has almost as many starts as Angeli. Going into 2026, Filardi has as many starts as Angeli had before coming here. Angeli was a little better in the Sun Bowl than Filardi in the UNC game-like thing that we experienced.

Not sure if you are actually serious. Angeli played in 21 games at Notre Dame and had 80 passing attempts,17 rushes, and X number of hand offs and only one interception. He had enough experience that it was evident he could perform at least half way decent here.
Angeli was 15 of 19 for 232 yards and 3 TDs and no interceptions in the Sun Bowl.

Emphasis on starts. That's all.

Seems to me like things are starting to come unraveled. The last two weeks of Cuse football have looked mentally unwell.

Season is over. I'll check in around signing day and if any other significant coaching changes happen.

When you think about it the moves really are odd.

I get having help with the QBs, but why make it formal? Why not have the two guys working with the QBs going forward? The TEs can go with the WRs or OL, which usually happens anyway. Making it public gives the allusion of blaming Nunzio.

Also it is Nixon’s O. You would think having him work with the QBs would be more beneficial in teaching the O.

The WRs are the least of our problems. So firing the guy seems weird. Especially in season. What benefit is there to doing it now? Makes one think that it wasn’t football related. BTW how did the guy have a title (which comes with $) when he had no resume?

Could be the WR coach was not a good fit or did not "gel" with the culture and if Gattis is proving himself and players gravitate towards him and he has some different ideas for the offense you have the benefit of getting that moving now and not off season.

Plus if we know we are going to move on from, doing it now helps him get a head start on finding a new gig. Better for everyone

They were not getting open. They have been lousy catching 50/50 balls. Cook’s footwork has been poor.
This is true - in the early going I thought Filardi was not always precise but his wide receivers helped him not one bit. I’ve been shocked to see miscommunication on routes at this point in the season even with new QBs. Everyone needs to step up to get us through this tough period including our talented wide receiver room

I wouldn't worry much about Nunz here. I'm glad Gattis is getting more involved too.
i hope you are right. nunzio needs to remain an assistant head coach. however given the what appears to be a somewhat toxic climate he may look to go elsewhere. i hope we are paying very well. i bet rutgers would love to get him .

Yes, he is taking the fall for Nixon's inability to make the QB throw the ball to the WRs that have been schemed wide open.

lol, no amount of QB coaching is going to improve Collins vision and accuracy in a few months. Schemed wide open 20/25 yards down the field. Nixon has a propensity for all or nothing home run ball.
