Codie Hornsby transferring to Tulsa

I think adding to the OL room is now priority #1 for the spring portal
I think we have bigger holes at corner. If we can’t get a veteran guy to hold the room down, then we’re looking at multiple penalty’s a game and blown coverages.

From the known portal activity/visits it looks like Fran is comfortable rolling with CBs we have. This is his wheelhouse when it comes to talent evaluation.

Who is coming in if a couple of these guys gets hurt?

corner is a hole but losing a lot of our 2s to the portal from the OL is not great.

We are in trouble there whether people want to admit it or not is up to them.

Would love to see Enrique pull his name out of the portal…

I don’t disagree it’s a problem. But last year our 2 corners weren’t the best. This year we have 2 young corners starting and 2 backups as freshman.

Sure but who is that 6-8 spot now?

The OL room is looking real light these days

outside of that 5 you listed who is left?

Byron Washington and Josh Miller? Who else am I missing?
Yes the room is light on competition. Hopefully they sign a few more transfers. Multiple true frosh can't be expected to contribute.

We’ve had a few corners visit. Some are still deciding on school and one just signed with Arkansas. Wouldn’t be suprised to see at least 1 corner transfer in.

Back-ups (Non Frosh)
Betrand, Josh Miller, Vito Shevchenko, Travis Brown-Miller (He's still in the fold right?)

Back-ups (Frosh)
Byron Washington (Enrolled)
Skyler Harvey (Summer)
Kahlil Stewart (Summer)
Jayden Mann (Summer)
Kardiear Shepherd (Summer)
Mathew Haan (Summer)
Djoni Scatliffe (Summer)

Seems we definitely need 1 or 2 more solid back-ups. Would love to have either Wohlabaugh or Enrique Cruz pull their name out and return

It's funny, when this kid committed. I expected him to have a huge impact, doesn't seem like he was important on the too deep this year either, so best of luck to him.
Yeah same - just didn’t have the same traction / impact as Spoon.

That’s what i would call a serviceable group. We certainly need more bodies.
Even with departures there are currently 16 scholarship OL. Issue is 9 are Redshirt or True Freshmen. Another 3 are sophomores. Bodies aren’t the issue, experience is.

Need Miller, Mack, Brown-Miller, Bertrand, and Washington to be ready now.

Bringing in two more quality upperclassmen would be great, but there are a lot of well regarded young guys already on the roster.

A lot

So Bertrand.

Who else? Most are all freshman including Byron Washington

8 on the current roster, given all the departures [Wohlabaugh, Cruz Jr., Hornsby, Goodacre], that I would expect to be in the rotation:

  1. Weatherspoon [OT]
  2. Betrand [OG]
  3. Petry [OG]
  4. Miller [OG / OT]
  5. Mack [OT]
  6. Washington [OG, despite the massive size, true frosh but participated in spring practice]
  7. Cruz [OG]
  8. Collins [C]
The others are frosh or redshirt frosh -- example, could a guy like Shevchenko carve out a niche on the two-deep?

The true frosh are:
  • Harvey
  • Hawn
  • Mann
  • Scatliffe
  • Shepherd
  • Stewart
Of that group, I'd expect that only Hawn might be capable of cracking the rotation. Stewart is reportedly a true center, so maybe he'd find his way into the two-deep if he is "ready" to contribute as a back-up.

Feel like we need to add an OT or two.

Edit: or maybe they think that Cruz, Miller, Betrand, etc. can also play tackle, and that positional versatility will allow them to play a smaller rotation but rotating guys.

Yea that’s what i meant by bodies. Experienced guys that can play now. At this point the rest are just names on the back of a jersey.

We offered Zach Rice the UNC transfer, Jaelyne Matthew is visiting, aswell as Calhoun the UGA transfer.
From everything i’ve read Matthew isn’t going to be much help. This kid went from one of the top NJ prospects to basically everyone pulling his offer to the point he ended up and Rutgers and then couldn’t hack it there. Unfortunately, I’d be willing to be him and Bertrand never see the field on a consistent basis and if they do it won’t be pretty.

I’d feel much better if we got that Georgia OT who was visiting, but at this point we certainly need some help.

Well I don’t know if you read the article about him in depth but, Matthew wasn’t sought after because he had a lot of off field problems. He was trying to leverage teams for more money and Penn state and Tennessee backed off. Also had another legal matter. His skills has always been there.

We definitely need more vets.

We’re -3 in upperclassmen to the portal right now and that doesn’t include Goodacre.

That’s what i meant he had off field issues and the talent wasn’t there to back it up. You don’t think these teams would have paid if they thought he was worth it? Leaving Rutgers is an even bigger red flag.

Well it’s one thing to request a big NIL. It’s another to request and then keep leveraging other teams to pay more, when he’s not even in college yet.

Well, we know that his frontal lobe is not fully-formed yet.

I know what that's like. Even at my age.

It's going to be real hard for most schools to hold onto JR and SR players who are backups (unless they are splitting something like 60/40). Kids want to start, and it's easy to get picked up by any number of schools that need that position.
The big boys will be able to pay the kids to stay but this is where I don't think we can catch up and will require us to keep hitting on recruiting classes and have a very strong developmental program.
