Paterno was probably retiring at the end of the year.

This story has been circulating for years.

The story breaks during a bye weekend for Penn State.

It breaks the week before Penn State's final home game of the season.

It breaks before what would probably have been Paterno's last home game at Penn State.

And it breaks after he becomes the all-time winningest coach in college football history.

Coincidence?

I think not.

Curious as to why you think it came out now, as opposed to, say, next Monday after he got to take a victory lap at Beaver Stadium this weekend. Unless you're saying they wanted to get this out before he had that opportunity?

That's what I'm wondering. The timing is curious. Has there been pressure to break the story? Did someone finally give in? It's as if they held off, then almost as if they finally decided to embarass Paterno and the program. It's still a huge story if it breaks in January. But it's a whole different story at this stage of the season. Maybe just a coincidence, but the timing is kind of strange.
