Cole Swider signs with Heat

Last night's game, on offense Cole just ran to a corner during each possession. He has to move and try to do more. Granted, he didn't always shoot and moved the ball well, but you can't just play zone offense. He had a couple rebounds so he is doing more than just scoring.

He is a specialist. He isn't going to be the target on a number of plays and his role is to space the floor with his shooting. I'm sure his activity is aligned with what the Lakers staff wants.

Cole ended up playing 23 mins last night. Unfortunately he missed all 5 of his 3’s and finished with just the 2 pts. He did have 5 rebs, 2 stls and 2 blocks.

He’s played some tonight. 2nd man off the bench both halves. But again his 3 pointer isn’t falling but they’re leaving him out there to try and get off the snide.

Cole played 25 mins and was the 2nd leading scorer with 17 pts. But he took a lot of shots to get there. Shot 4/16 with 3/11 from 3 and 6/6 on FTs. Added 5 rebs, 2 asts and 2 stls.

Moving from one corner to another can create an open shot by losing the defender or having him picked off. At least mix it up at times and keep the defense on its toes.

I wonder how many of the players who played ahead of Cole at Villanova are on an NBA roster? Picking the right school out of high school is so important. I’m hoping others who screwed up make their way back to SU.

He may start in one spot but doesn’t stay there the whole possession. He runs a lot of pick and pop and also moving to open spots. He went to the basket some as evidenced by 6-6 on FTs. You’re exaggerating some on him just standing in the corner. He is a perimeter guy though because that’s his role in the offense.

Sometimes I don't think folks realize that NBA pre season is tough to find rhythm. You go from backing up normal starters to getting longer run to then backing up the end of the roster as well while a bunch of guys that definitely won't make the team are getting heavy minutes.

It's his first NBA off season. He will continue to adapt and improve. Cole has the maturity and work ethic to make it stick.

Often, the NBA boils down to 2 v 2 pick & role, or spacing to isolate a player in their preferred position of comfort to get a bucket.. if Cole Swider is running around, cutting through the lane repeatedly he's actually counter-acting what the offense is trying to do by clogging the space & bringing extra defenders with him. Which he has. Steals and blocked shots mean possessions and he has been doing all the dirty work and putting in the effort so far. While his shot was rough the past two games he finished strong last night.

And the fact is “ shooters shoot”. When Cole settles in, that jumper will start to connect. We saw it here last season, in summer league, and it’ll happen for him in the Association.
The Lakers suck from the perimeter- he’s found the perfect team for his skills. So happy and proud for him.

It spaces the floor and opens up the lane for guys like Lebron. It's boring basketball but not bad strategy with the right personnel.
