Colgate Postgame

100 percent. People don’t realize how much better the ACC is than the big east. Cuse isn’t playing DePaul anymore. And it’s not apples to apples when playing Colgate, but I laugh when people compare Cuse to Duke and Kentucky. I also think people forget how bad this team has been for a decade. A literal decade.

As far as this game goes, it’s simple it’s about toughness and defense. They better fix it or they will have some serious problems. This team needs to wake up and play how they are capable
I agree with you. Does this coaching staff have the capability to teach these guys how to play defense?

This team needs to wake up and play how they are capable

My issue right now so I am not 100% sure they are capable of more. I think they will have games when they play better, especially on offense but I am not sure they are going to ever be any better on defense. We have people like myself who have been screaming we need to play man2man for years now screaming we need to go back to zone.

What I’m seeing in practice is nowhere near what I’m seeing in the games. The coaching the intensity the pressure is missing in the games. They are capable but they need to change it quickly
It might be that they’re guarding each other. Just kidding. There were instances tonight where the defense looked good. Consistency is the problem. Our backcourt has a hard time guarding a chair. Blow by after blow by. What’s discouraging is no one comes to help. Our bigs don’t rotate at all. Donnie is not as good as Davis. He just floats around waiting to put up jumpers. Davis at least goes and gets the ball. I was pleased to see Choppa Play tonight. He has no fear and he can actually make a move off the dribble and pull up and shoot.

I was really hoping that the influx of seniors would bring a sense of leadership and more importantly URGENCY about WINNING. But, I am not seeing it.

Bell at least is passing better and putting it on the floor.

JJ's defense is comical. He went backwards somehow.

Yeah, I've been JJ's biggest defender and he was just awful tonight. Red should have pulled him at the first time out, or certainly by the second, and somehow kept him in for the first 15 minutes of the half.

Simply put Autry is not a head coach. No idea what he is doing.

We were really awful at times last year, too, and somehow won 20 games. This was absolute crap tonight. No argument. It has to get much better or this will be a dreadful year.

So far, it looks more the fault of coaching than the lack of talent, to me. I don't feel like he's playing the right guys at the right times. Politics messes up what the rotation should be.

But he can't play these guys so many damn minutes when they just aren't trying on defense. Or else play the damn zone, if you can't keep the other guys from constantly getting to the rim.

It should be JJ. But, what the hell is going on with his defense? The dude is athletic, why can't he stay in front of ANYBODY?
Why JJ? There is no evidence he is a leader. Some have said his D has regressed. I say it is simply as bad as it was last year. His O is all one way and so predictable that Colgate made him go left and bottled him up. Not a great ball handler and definitely no PG skills. Does not act like a leader out there. Red is blinded because he recruited him for years.

Being unable to hit free throws to seal a win against goddamn COLGATE is very fitting for this program over the last decade or so.

JJ because he is a McDonald's All American and if he wants to go to the next level, he needs to TAKE this team and demand a level that we have not seen. Who else? Chris Bell...please. That's it, that's the list. If not JJ, then it's another lost year.

That was REALLY disappointing. I thought Davis was going to hit the front end the second time, because who misses two FRONT FREAKING ENDS?!?!?!?! Ok, Davis is a piece, but he isn't a closer. We know that now.

Are you his agent or relative? I hope I am wrong because I did not and do not see it happening. I was hoping for an upgrade in the portal.

Agree. It is baffling. The help side defense and rotations haven’t been good, but the guards inability to keep their man in front of them has been atrocious.
They are clueless on help!!! It's like they have no idea how defense works.

I am just saying that those are the two, right? Who else? and Chris Bell is a follower, not a leader. So, it's JJ or NOBODY

I think we are doing nothing more than convincing each other that things look bleak. Ugh, again.

YES!! Who is going to step up and be a leader. Honestly, I don't have a lot of faith in the coaches. I know some guys that have a lot of faith and a personal relationship with the coaches, and I respect that. but, that being said, I think we need a player to step up. And, I don't think we have ANY player that will step up. They are distracted with their personal interests (dry rub? what the hell, get in the game man). If you want to win, dudes need to step up and LEAD.

My man… we heard the same last year. Coach just had over a week between game 1 and game 2 to get them to play like they practice. What are they waiting for?

Is he thinking too much? That will set you back a step.
No I mean mindset wise he's cooked because he's ok with being a sieve and having dudes run by him. He doesn't seem to have the drive to stop that. Even a bad defender will at least get physical and bump a guy instead of of just letting the drive by happen.
