Why would the players want to set caps on NILs?
Does the NBA salary cap have a cap on shoe deals?
Again, I'm not arguing the need for it or if it would make the sport better. I'm speaking the reality of the landscape. People consistently say stuff like "There should be a cap" or "They shouldn't allow the portal" (Already denied in court) or the whole you have to stay in school 2 years (NBA Players won't sign off on that).
I wish people on this board would read up on the cases and the reasons why it is how it is currently before basically asking for impossible things

NHL hockey is substantially better than it was 30 years ago. Now that they’ve started marketing players, they’re in a good spot for growth.
I don’t know of any possible way to make the same argument for college basketball - sometimes people are correct and something specific did, in fact, get worse.
Hockey fans are like soccer fans. Always boasting about growing viewership.NHL viewership on ESPN and TNT is looking truly dreadful
The NHL finds itself struggling in viewership, drawing dreadful audiences for regular season games last week.awfulannouncing.com
It’s behind women’s college basketball, but ok

“Now that they’ve started marketing players, they’re in a good spot for growth. ”Are we talking quality of the games, or TV ratings? It seems like this thread can’t decide what metrics are being used to decide if a sport is better or worse over time. My response is about quality of play, anyone rebutting it with TV ratings is making a category error.
Quality of play in college basketball is far inferior to the recent past - it’s not just being an old guy thinking everything was better when I was younger. As for the NHL, rappers wearing jerseys drove the 90s “popularity”. It was never getting great ratings and the “neutral zone trap 90s” was never going to be broadly appealing. Quality of play today is much better than it was in the 90s - goons are gone, speed of the game is up, scoring is up.
