College Bball is in a steep decline

Why would the players want to set caps on NILs?

Does the NBA salary cap have a cap on shoe deals?

Again, I'm not arguing the need for it or if it would make the sport better. I'm speaking the reality of the landscape. People consistently say stuff like "There should be a cap" or "They shouldn't allow the portal" (Already denied in court) or the whole you have to stay in school 2 years (NBA Players won't sign off on that).

I wish people on this board would read up on the cases and the reasons why it is how it is currently before basically asking for impossible things

Well, regarding your first question; fact is, NILs in college are not legit/true NILs, but as the entire world knows, pay for play. So, of course, they wouldn't be in favor of capping such a winfall & runaway train that it is in its current state.

2nd question; because shoe deals for individual players are true NIL in every sense of the word, that's why, and they have no authority/jurisdiction to cap such a prosperity.

I wonder...if there was a collective bargaining agreement amongst players, et al, if they (the majority) would agree to do what they did several years back relative to NFL rookie deals? Thereby eliminating what the Sam Bradford's, etc. of the world cashed in on versus spreading the wealth, so to speak, to the 'collective' good?

As people get older they think everything gets worse said every generation ever.
Some people do.

Ask some teenagers about basketball, though. You'd be surprised to hear that many of them think the sport was way better years ago. They've watched the clips on YouTube and Tik Tok, so it's not an ill-informed opinion.

NHL hockey is substantially better than it was 30 years ago. Now that they’ve started marketing players, they’re in a good spot for growth.

I don’t know of any possible way to make the same argument for college basketball - sometimes people are correct and something specific did, in fact, get worse.

It’s behind women’s college basketball, but ok

This was June 1994…. Just over 30 yrs ago. Hockey was better then.

NHL is not a good product and it's amazing they fill those arenas at the same prices as the NBA. IDK how they do it. I only watch Bruins games and no neutral even playoffs. But my team might as well be Canadian. I think most cities just have their 10k hardcore fans then the casuals and they like going to games.

NBA regular season is way too long and even the 7 game series should be shortened. Not enough stars or defense. CBB has fabulous on campus venues games that matter and single elimination playoffs.

Syracuse just had the absolute worst major conference coach. We're only a year or two away from players getting direct TV money and all that we'll be fine if we don't botch the next hire.

Baseball sucks and is dying I wish the NCAA would give mens lax the treatment WBB gets. Pissed me off that I couldn't watch a single game last weekend I wanted to ski and everyone had ended by 4pm.

Are we talking quality of the games, or TV ratings? It seems like this thread can’t decide what metrics are being used to decide if a sport is better or worse over time. My response is about quality of play, anyone rebutting it with TV ratings is making a category error.

Quality of play in college basketball is far inferior to the recent past - it’s not just being an old guy thinking everything was better when I was younger. As for the NHL, rappers wearing jerseys drove the 90s “popularity”. It was never getting great ratings and the “neutral zone trap 90s” was never going to be broadly appealing. Quality of play today is much better than it was in the 90s - goons are gone, speed of the game is up, scoring is up.

YOU brought up marketing of players and growth. Smart of you to move the goalposts.

there used to be grown men playing NCAABB...guys like Larry Johnson...if he was around now he'd be a one and done

the seniors used to be grown and polished players...those guys never even make it to their junior years now

i dont see how this just typical vetching of getting old, its really not.

now the "good players" are still learning fundamentals.

well i just looked up final four ratings of the last 20 years and last year was the lowest in a steady stream of lower and lower each year

Cord cutting. Ratings on basically everything except NFL has went down the past 20 years

college ball is semi pro now. rewatch the movie RUDY but with him bagging 100g's .
it's not about school. it's not about honor or pride. it's all about "SHOW ME THE MONEY"

I feel like we would all be pretty much OK with the state of college basketball if we were actually good.

Honestly we were mediocre last year and I still watched a ton of games outside of Syracuse.

Something is just off with this year. There's less hype surrounding games. Feels like the pre-game coverage is far more boring. Too many players moving on to another school after each season. I'm developing ADD when it comes to rosters. I can barely remember who is on what team anymore. Too much coaching changes too. And the constant conference realignment was already bad enough starting around 2011 but now it's just gone overboard when you see Pac-12 teams in the Big 10 etc. Like huh? Everything just seems so goofy that has gone on recently.

There doesn’t seem to be players that you can’t miss watching. Outside of Flagg, I’m not sure who makes me want to watch.

Johni Broome on Auburn is a superstar but I honestly don’t think the average casual sports fan has any idea who he is.
