To be honest...isn't that fair? We were bad for 17 years, and put together 1 good season, then lose the QB that made it happen. There have been so many historically bad programs, that suddenly flashed a 9,10,11, win season, only to crash back to reality the next year. If you're on the outside looking in, why would you think Syracuse isn't one of those programs. Win 8+ wins this year and it'll change the perception.
We see it differently because we follow this team closely, know the incoming players, know what last years backups are capable of, and have seen what Tommy can be.

Liberty had one the THE WORST D’s in all of college football last year.
Like, almost UConn level (sub-subbasement) bad.

We’re going to put up at least 40, because that’s just what we do (against all non-Clemson foes.)

That means that Liberty will need to score like 24 or more, against our D.

I’m... just not seeing that.

Best case: their stud WR breaks one for a TD, one of their RB’s does likewise, and then maybe they get a FG, or 2.

Basic math - 20 (or less) doesn’t beat 40+
(Nor does it even cover)

And their QB threw 18 picks last year. One of the worst if not worst in the country. Things would have to go horribly bad for this team to outscore us.

College Gameday just doesn’t respect us yet.

In this era of "everyone gets a trophy", if you don't make a bowl game, you're a bad football team. Hell, there are some bad 5 win teams that go bowling too. Bottom line is, we went to 4 bowl games in 16 years. One of them was a 6 win team that lost 51-14. Over 16 years, we averaged 4.5 wins per year. The few bowl seasons we had in that span, never came back to back. It showed that when we flashed, it was only for 1 year, further bolstering the "show me some consistency" argument.

It's game day folks. Coach Dino Babers, his entire very capable Staff and especially the Players I am sure are acutely aware of what the so called experts have said and are saying. I agree with several of the posters on here that being so bad for so long makes last year look like the poster child of the one hit wonders. HOWEVER, those were other teams coached by other coaches with other players. This team has developed a much different culture (mindset) and realizes it is on the field where your results are judged. They realize last year means nothing if this year is not great. I have faith, you know belief without evidence that this group will take each game one at a time. They know the spot light is on them and they are the hunted now. I expect them to be ready and to take care of business. Go Orange!!!!!!

Freeze is getting way too much respect I think that is why these pinheads are throwing out the upset alert. Yeah the guy beat Bama twice but that was with a boatload of SEC level talent that he broke every rule in the book to get. Liberty doesn’t have close to that talent, their D is awful their QB threw a ton of picks in his first year facing better competition. Oh and Freeze missed half of summer camp in his first year as coach yet they are going to be this well oiled machine that beats a coach who was one play away from beating the new version of Bama two years in a row?
