Colton Moskal is transferring to Penn

And both sites got it straight from Shafer. God forbid people decide to take our head coach at his word until any other info is presented to suggest what he's saying is not true.

I don't think so.

You don't think what? I'm not even sure what that means in this context. Both sites said they got it straight from Shafer. I'm saying I'm inclined to believe our coach until there's actual reason not to. Now, there is reason not to in this case.

So when it's actually said on Syracuse.com that Shafer indicated it was a PT issue, you don't believe he actually did indicate it to them?

I guess I wouldn't put it past some of the writers there to take conjecture and print it as fact, but still. I assume you can understand why people would take something like that as face value since, in theory at least, journalists are supposed to actually write about the facts.

First, as I said earlier, I'm talking about the recruiting site. Not Syr.com. Second, I expect Scott to say that. Like I also said earlier, it's SOP. And there's nothing wrong with that.

If football isn't for him anymore and/or he has an opportunity to go Ivy, can't fault that decision one bit. Best of luck to him.

I know you were talking about that other site. My point is, they said the exact same thing as Syracuse.com.

Anyway, whatever, it's not really important at this point. Best of luck to Colton, whatever the reason actually was.

I'm disappointed cause I thought he'd be a real stud. As a starter as a backup or in a rotation.

Some people look at a glass and see it as half full.

Some people look at a glass and see it as half empty.

People from Syracuse look at a glass and automatically assume you're trying to poison them. :noidea:

This couldn't be more true.

If he wants to trade D-1 football for the Ivy League, that's a smart move.

Unless you have a real shot at the pro's and that's an option, you'd be stupid not to.
This is basically straight out of my brother's mouth...he's repeatedly said if his son grows up to be a hoops player with no shot at the NBA, he'd send him to Harvard over Syracuse despite being a die hard SU fan.

And if this is what's happening with Colton - he's choosing education over a chance to play in a P5 conference - absolutely support him. Great personal decision for a kid looking out for his own future, if this is the case.

if the kid is ivy league material he would be a idiot not to go that route-

when a kid leaves to move up not over or down its a very good thing

best of luck and never forget you were orange and always will be

One of my closest friends from HS was a GREAT soccer player. Had offers from everywhere. Player of the year in NJ, and that's saying something. Claudio Reyna won the award the year prior. Problem was his size, (5'-8" 160 lbs wet?). He went to the best school he could go for college soccer and won 3 NCs in 4 years. Reyna was his teammate, and Bruce Arena his coach. He didn't play much at all. He was just too small. He road it out just because he didn't think he could improve on the education he got at UVA. There was no MLS until our senior year, so pro prospects weren't a factor. He wasn't going overseas. Colton's story reminds me of this. Good for him.

Penn is a great school. If I remember correctly, Colton is a business major. The Wharton College of Business is at Penn.
Wharton is the #1 business school in the country. I wish that was available to me when I gave up football! Good luck Colton.

The coaching staff here loved Colton and he enjoyed Syracuse but everyone on the team is trying to make the NFL, putting in untold hours each week to get better.

Colton enjoys football but his biggest love is academics. He needed a place where the balance between football and academics is more level; where he can succeed at both without detracting from either.

Agree with others in this thread. Terrific kid, is going to be a big success no matter where he ends up or what he ends up doing. Best wishes to him in the future!

Shoutout my man@cotton_moskal for getting accepted to U Penn. Congrats man and chase your dreams. The squad won't be the squad without you but you'll have to come visit soon

In a way Colton's scholarship is going to one of his best friends (yes I know not technically) as Foster came in as a walk on. Good for both of them.

my daughter graduated from penn, it is a fantastic school. he will do well in the job market with that degree, and you are correct wharton is there

I briefly met the kid last spring. Appears to be a good kid, but this isn't a total shock. FBS programs move kids out all the time if they don't cut the mustard. I thought Moskal was a marginal FBS player based off his hudl film where he played against some smallish HS teams & from the limited time I saw him in practices here.

He obviously read the "tea leaves" or was told them by the coaching staff. Coach Lea is a very straight forward guy. No hidden agendas with him. You either can play or you can't.

He is going to a great academic school and will have a chance to play right away there. Good luck to him.

Doesn't Lake Zurich play the highest level of ball in Chicagoland??

Either way I guess it doesn't matter. Personally I thought his HS highlights were excellent, as did many others because he had plenty of FBS offers. I did hear that he was a bit over matched during practice, but he was an 18 year old Freshman, so nothing too unexpected. He probably did see the writing on the wall with Franklin securely entrenched as the MIKE for the next 3 years. Combine that with the ability to go to the #1 Business school in the country, and you can understand his decision.
