Come on down...

watched that show as a kid everyday.. didnt realize i saw it from the beginning.. when you only have 3 channels i guess i makes sense

When I was in my early 20s I went out to LA to visit a friend. We went to a taping of TPIR. You got in a long line and everybody in the audience is interviewed for about 30 seconds. It's the producers way of identifying someone who is interesting and energetic enough to be a contestant. Eventually we all get seated. It's smaller than it looks on tv.

Before the show started, Rod Roddy is telling the audience to show a lot of excitement and what to do if your name is called. And then, he says, 'For example Come on down!' and he called my name.

I was pretty excited until I realized that there was no chance that my name was going to be called during the actual show. Rod cursed me. Still, it was a fun experience.

Ages ago (late 70's), I was in LA for a family vacation, and we got to see a couple of Match Game episodes taped from the same studio.

This woman is going for the $5000 top prize, and she has to come up with a match for "Cuckoo ___________".

She booted it. Said "Cuckoo Fran, and Ollie".

Used to love that show when Bob hosted. Now I don't enjoy it as much. Now they have every contestant be so wild and over the top that it's not unique or fun any more to me.
