So $4M of revenue share is going to basketball, $1M from the NIL tourney. How much do we need to compete a high level? I think SEC schools will have $9-10M. Assuming Autry is a good coach (which he’s not).

Since Saturday, I’m really at a lost for words as it pertains to the men’s basketball program. However, I kind of see two ways this goes for next season:

1. Big donors have a lot more confidence in Autry than the rest. They invest money in Autry that has them in the top 10 in the nation for NIL. Hoping that he succeeds and gets the medium and small donor more engaged to keep it going for 2026-27.

2. We maintain our current NIL budget position with increases for inflation levels. See if Autry can figure out the coaching thing and probably make strides the following season to get to an NIL level to perform at our historical level of success.

Option 1 is really going into the make or break moment for the program. If we go option 2 and Autry doesn’t figure out the coaching thing and gets fired. We probably go all in on option 1 in 2026-27 or 2027-28 with our new coach.

This is kind of the two paths I see this going. Option 2 would really suggest that we can’t afford the buyout, so it’s pretty much hoping Autry improves his coaching or he’s done after season 3. Kinda curious what others think, if we will be closer to option 1 or option 2 next season?

Etan and Devo said today on their podcast that $5 million will not get us out of the middle of the ACC. Devo mentioned today that Maryland has received two $10 million donations for basketball NIL. This tells us how far behind we are. SMU has no limit to NIL. Duke has an unlimited budget. We saw what Louisville did last year. I’m not sure our NIL budget will get us anywhere close to the top third of the conference.

Not with Red is coach they are right. We probably need to out talent our coach.
