On United, what is the minimum connection time ,I should give myself for a domestic connection. Is a 50 minute layover sufficient?

Depends where the connection is, and how fast you can move. Bigger airports and 50 min should be fine.

Generally 50 minutes should be fine. The greater concern would be if the first flight was delayed. If it's an early morning flight it should be on time barring a weather issue. If both flights are with the same airline, all the better.
