Cornell Gameday...

Just not enough hustle today n to many way to many guys we’re going after the ball leaving dudes wide open. One play was 3 orange guys going for gb but cornell came up with it to throw it right away n get a goal. To many times saw our guys both go for ball absolutely no “man / ball” “ talk out there. Seemed everytime we got it to two n had ball to pull within 1 we turned it over unforced or hit pipe n didn’t get the gb. Few times guys not fully hustling to balls going out on shots. The one man up shot hits pipe goes to midfield n goes to cornell where was our d guy ?

Defense was sliding way way too much. Cornell moves ball very well don’t think sliding so much or quickly is the answer. There seem no communication out there when did slide. As one goal where cornell guy came from behind untouch grace top of crease n kol behind yet grace didn’t move n kol tried to go from one side to other to get man. When grace should have slid to ball n kol take man on crease. Also mccool just wasn’t good. The outside shots he let in today just can’t happen. They were clear line of sight n least good distance out. He didn’t seem to step to ball on shots either.

Also don’t get why we didn’t tell bear get ball n go. As he couldn’t be stopped anytime he took it to rack. Grant he missed least 2 great chances but he was getting to goal. He barely tried it after first few times. Joey didn’t touch ball much was mostly leo rhoa n english with ball beside when hiltz did. Mullen had slow start n few times we needed the ball n a win but didn’t. Can’t fault him to much but we really need to get another solid fogo.

This team just came out slow n looked like they weren’t ready or up for playing today. Seem D went right back to swinging for sticks instead of taking body. To many unforced turnovers at the worst times. To many poor angle shots again n again. Which normally starts the offenses lulls. Have to get to middle of field improve ur angle. Cornell is a good team their offense is very good n their goalie had nice game (was huge diff today) but we def could have won that game.

last but not least those refs were absolutely terrible. That rice flag was most crazy flag i have ever seen. Wasn’t from behind was from front chest or lower area so yea rice over powered him oh well not illegal. Plus clearly could see cornell guy grabbing his stick. Seemed we got call for every rinky dink soft touch while cornell could do no wrong. I do agree our guys have to stop hitting guys high specially when can easily line them up like the leo flag. Had clear line to use shoulder yet goes high to where stick hits dudes head. Also dwan needs to be better. Could be me but sometimes he just seems lazy to me. He seems like his name or size will intimidate his guy to where they won’t even test him. As he plays so far off he seems to just jog with them not on their hands or taking body but will throw borderline slash at a terrible time n where everyone can see(lucky doesn’t get called) but has to be smarter n better.

Also wasn’t thrilled gait didn’t call a timeout till cornell went up 8-2 when clearly could see things were all out of sorts. I know doing so can give other team a shot by calling time out. But maby let’s not wait till 6-7 straight goals get scored before pause n settle our guys down huh? It was very clear that we weren’t ready n all discombobulated even before cornell reached 8 goals. Also man down normally very good but today they just floated to much to one side n packed it in way to much. If player is behind cage n has ball n man down don’t go out on him same goes for all way up top. As that’s what they want u to come out so can move ball n get ya on the wheel. Leave them if they sit there cause not pressing out so much oh well let them waste their man up time. Every man down i could see what was gonna happen most times. We just left backside open way too much. Just overall very poor performance at some very important times.

This team still has everything in their hands but they have to seize control n take it. Also saw someone say tall task taking on ND n cornell back to back. I totally agree but at same time that is gonna be a given if make tounry. Your going to play good team after good team after good team. That is how you win the chip. As you have to be on ur A game every game. The road is not gonna be easy from here on out n hasn’t been since the uva game. This is where this team either becomes a final four or chip team or bust. Have to play your best from here on out. Can not take a play or game off. Gotta push strong till memorial day hopefully. This team has to be more consistent period. They have the talent n skill to do so , now just have to go do it. Let’s go orange get back after it practice hard this week n beat duke. And i’ll see you in the dome on april 27th vs unc. Can’t wait to get back up to cuse.

Who’s laughing now? Today you saw the difference between a real Tewaaraton finalist (Kirst) vs someone who can only pile up points against non-final four teams. You’ll see it again in the Elite 8 matchup, too. Keep laughing… I stand by my take, and also my other take that Rhoa needs to sit and that Hottle needs to play more. THIS is the year to win the chip, too, because we have enough talent and there is no great team out there (this is possibly the weakest that the ACC lax teams have ever been!). Chances like this don’t come around too often

You were MIA after last week. Rhoa had 3 today.

ACC isn't weak. It's just not stacked with 6 year players.

Have to agree with the Dwan assessment. Don’t get the stance he is in right now. He needs to get the stick out and actually use it. He is giving his cover too much space. He never makes them feel uncomfortable when he is on ball.

Gaits the coach, whose responsibility would it be when the team consistently starts slow in big games; Kevin Donahue? Kyle Fetterly? Quint Kessenich? Duke in the Acc tourney last year, Towson and Denver in the tourney Marykand and Cornell this year etc. Team looks unprepared full stop. Doesn't mean I think he should be fired but you can't ignore reality either.

Comparing Gaits teams to Desko and Simmons is worse then your take on Anderson. Desko has 5 national titles, Gait hasn't made a final four yet.
How is comparing former coaches a bad take when teams fail to perform to potential I can recite countless examples for every staff in the country. As for Anderson if he is going to be on the field he is going to have to produce. Cornell obviously adjusted and did not slide off Spallina and Anderson continues to struggle to finish his own dodges. He is big athletic and raw his day will come but the learning curve is extremely steep when you’re playing the number 1 team in the country. With Deere you sacrifice some dodging but bring in better ball movement, a better pick game and definitely better chemistry. My suggestion was that if someone isn’t producing then the attack should be rotated. If you think that’s a bad idea then I can’t help you Same approach should have been taken with McCool players are human they have off days when it happens there are substitutes for a reason. You can have the greatest schemes ever but it’s up to the people on the field to execute

Classic letdown after a big win against ND. Only one game ball to hand out today and that goes to Owen Hiltz. He was on fire and really did his part to swing the momentum. On the other hand I have three smelly jocks to hand out. The first one goes to Jimmy McCool. 7 saves 16 goals against for a 30% save percentage. That’s not going to get it done. Second jock goes to Luke Rhoa. Yes he had 3 goals…on 13 shots. That makes him 3 for 38 over the last 3 games. Cornell put the shorty on Rhoa and gave him free rein and he should have had 6 or 7 goals with all the looks he had. I’ll give Spallina a sniff as well for pretty much being a no show. Finally, an XL smelly jock goes to Coach Gary Gait for everything to do with scheduling thiis Corrigan Sports debacle. The game could’ve easily been set up at a local high school and we wouldn’t have given up home field advantage. Two top 5 teams at the peak of the season and the production was less than amateurish.

I’d be curious to know if Gary got a cut of the PPV revenue.
Talk to the university who scheduled multiple concerts in season. Which probably goes back to lack of attendance in football and basketball someone has to pay for those new seats and shiny lights if sports aren’t doing it something else is going to have to. Not sure these concerts couldn’t of been scheduled after Mother’s Day but they weren’t

Yes, good call. See Duke game played at CNS couple years ago.

Yesterday's broadcast was complete bullsh!t. More cringy than Anish and Carc!

Hiltz played great. Guess is the already taped akle is his problem.

We could have played the game outside at CNS High School.

But we aren't recruiting anyone from CNS.

All the talent plays on Long Island. Which is why we play at Hofstra and Stony Brook every so often. Last year Cornell played Notre Dame at LIU.

Metallica is in Atlanta and Florida after Mother's Day.

Billy Joel was scheduled to play in Europe.

UNC 8, Duke 7.

Duke +2.5 came in
Not sure who made those odds. UNC is clearly a better team this year and was higher ranked. Yeah, on the road, okay. But Koskinen is not exactly Cameron.

Duke just isn't that good this year. Love to see them miss the tournament.

Look, if they couldn't win another NC with O'Neill and Sowers, I just don't see them doing it again. Danowski is something like 72. I hope he gives it 1-2 more years, then retires, then Duke goes to pieces for a few years. I'd love to see 10 years of them being mediocre.

It'll be very interesting to see who takes over. If you watch Duke games, the body language and communication between John and Matt seems odd. I'm very curious if he becomes the head coach or someone else...I know a few Duke grads are high level coaches (maybe the St. Joe's guy?)

Couldn't make it to the Duke game yesterday, had kids sports I was busy with, but watched on t.v.

So at the end of the game, cameras show Dominic Pietramala waving to the crowd, helmet off, HUGE smile. If you didn't know better, you'd have thought he was waving to his mother, girlfriend, grandparents. Guy was just beaming and thrilled.

I've watched many games in that stadium. He was waving at the alumni pavilion, which is at one end of the stadium. It was full of Duke lax alums yesterday, they had some team anniversary celebration. Oh man, I'm sure they'd been giving it to Pietramala all game.

I'm not a UNC fan, not a Dave or Dominic fan, but I like Duke far less. That takes some serious stones to take off your helmet and wave and smile at a bunch of drunk dudes pushing 40. God, it was GREAT! I'm sure those guys hate drank too much last night and talk S* about Pietramala and UNC all night. Must have extra bad hangovers this morning.

Thank you, Dominic Pietramala!

1) There’s a lot of talent in CNY and the best players always seem to go elsewhere. Maybe the game should’ve been played at West Genesee.

2) Spallina is the only Long Island native on the team that makes a difference. We are doing just fine without a bevy of Long Islanders.

3) it’s not a good enough reason to give up home field advantage.

I’m sorry, but I just can’t let this go. I’ve been listening to Booker Corrigan call both HS & College games for years so I’m well versed in his sophomoric antics & catch phrases. His lyric references & sayings like “that shot was more far right than a Michael Moore movie” or “that shot got more pipe than….(followed by a Hunter Biden or Marion Barry drug use reference)” may catch new listeners off guard but he’s been saying this stuff for years.

That being said, following a 3rd quarter Cornell goal, he said “nice hard bouncer….a little Paris Hilton there.” The other announcer, who laughed at his jokes all day, clearly sounded uncomfortable & didn’t even respond. Am I crazy or is this anything other than a completely vulgar & inappropriate reference to her sex tape? He is who he is & his shtick isn’t for most but this line caught me completely off guard. Imagine if someone said that on an ESPN, ACCN, BTN, etc. broadcast? There’s families & kids tuned in. Again, is this a reference to something else in relation to Hilton that’s going completely over my head?…..because I’m honestly hoping that’s the case.

EDIT: 21:25 in the game highlights in post #379 later in this thread.

Thank you for saying all of this. I don't appreciate the announcers who are like this. It doesn't "enrich" the experience. Just call the game. I don't need bad and/or offensive jokes. It's strange to me that it goes on and that the networks allow it. It's kind of like the bathroom/frat humor that has taken over so many mainstream Hollywood dude movies. It's just not funny to me. And yeah, jokes about politics or sex tapes is really troubling and shouldn't be happening.

I caught the 2nd half of MD v. Ohio State yesterday on Big 10 Network, I think. Some play-by-by guy and Don Zimmerman, a guy who knows the game. He's GREAT! Not flashy, no bro jokes, no references to sex tapes, just talks about lacrosse. That's all I need.

"Growing the game" shouldn't be via announcers from a bad, bygone era recycling unacceptable locker room culture for a new generation.

#2 is simply not correct, you may have heard of Michael Leo?

CNY has a nice class in 2026 but overall has been down for at least 7+ years if not more. The number of elite players that used to come out-of Sec 3 and the surrounding area has really diminished. Long Island is very difficult to recruit as a top D1 school but is still absolutely critical and SU scheduling a game there is a smart move. The game being Cornell is a different story.

There was a time over a decade ago when the best Sec 3 players made the Top 20 lists.

ILCover2005A.jpeg

In the Class of 2025, there's one kid in the Top 60 who is committed to an Ivy.

Rayfield and Doshna may make the Top 50 for 2026.

Last year, Sec 3 was shut out of the Top 100 entirely.

Forgot about Leo, but that’s it. I don’t see any future Leos or Spallinas being impressed watching us take a loss.
