Corner turned !!

For the first time since Freeney was here we actually look like we physically belong on the same field as the other team on offense and defense. Last decade or so it's been men agaisnt boys. Shite I remember that Nova physically dominated us a few short years ago.

I want to give props to the oline... they took on the 2nd best dline in the country and more than held their own. Then they ended the game by ramming the ball down their throats. That is the mark of a team that belongs.
Yeah, their front four will all eventually play in the NFL. The offensive line played a heck of a game. They gave Dungey enough time to use his magic to make plays happen. I believe Clemson has the number 1 defensive line in the country. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

As I was watching the game I was actually thinking to myself I hope I don't see any "corner turned" posts. We've had so many false dawns, why is this different? Well this is different... this win was not a fluke, if anything we should have won by more but we keep shooting ourselves in the foot. For the first time in a long time we don't look over matched physically... in Pierce, Ishmael, Phillips, Dungey we actually have weapons that the other team needs to worry about, even a team with as much talent as Clemson. Most importantly the oline not only held its own but dominated at winning time.

Taking a broader view of the season, the same theme appears... we could have won every game we played and when we lost it was in a large part due to our own mistakes as much as anything the other team has done. The one question mark has been the poor showing form the o line. For me to say the corner is turned I need to see three things:
- no epic beat downs
- oline continues to improve
- we establish a run game
- last but most importantly we beat BC and Wake. We lose to either of those teams and the air gets deflated... every other game is gravy

Couple of more notes.

Dungy was 22 of 33 for 278 and 3 TD's. That wasn't on 4o plus attempts. Against Clemson, that is huge production and efficiency. No int's either.

8 of 19 on third down vs 2 of 11. That's how you win wire to wire even giving up a cheap score. They keep that up I think they bag another of UM, Lville, or FSU this year.

After last night SU is still 32nd in total offense, which is pretty where they have been all year, and 42nd on defense, which is actually higher than were they were after the CMU game, which is remarkable.

Still 4th in 3rd down defense. Never would have imagined that. Still among the leaders in long plays from scrimmage, in particular passing.

This team really is pretty damn good. I think 8-5 is very get-able.

How many gift points did SU get tonight? The team with the defensive score was Clemson. Kept them in the game.

Not only that but the bounces of the football went well for Clemson. The pin down punts by the Clemson punter, Stricklands fumble. Clemsons own fumble. Hoff's kicks didn't roll.

I couldn’t agree more. Right now I feel like it’s my honeymoon. I’m out running errands and all of these people are looking at my Cuse front license plate and giving me a thumbs up and also telling me what a great game. I am all giddy and giving the thumbs up back.

We have to stay competitive. If we get blown out by ANY team on the remainder of our schedule or lose to Wake or BC, it will be like a kick to the groin. I know anything can happen after watching the game last night, I just hope we keep playing well.

I really really wish we hadn't given away that MTSU game now. We could be looking at an 8-4 or 9-3 reg season if not for that performance.

Not sure who next year's Ishmael and Erv will be but I am excited to find out!

There is no way he could’ve actually watched and paid attention to the game and had that take. Bizarre.

Oddly, the most exciting thing for me, is how much we can still improve. Still a lot of penalties, and some blown coverage, and miscommunication on offense, and poor clock management (delay of game). Imagine, how much better this program will get, when those things happen less, and Dino brings in more of his guys, and the team continues to learn the offense, and defense.

corner is turn if we give Miami all they can handle ,wins at home ARE NICE !! But wins in a top 25 back yard are sweeter !!!

I agree with you. We haven't hit the ceiling.

I don’t think you understand the meaning of the phrase

I did not mean to pee in your cornflakes .. If it makes you feel better i missed alot of the game last night and i am now watching in hole . I have been telling my friends and brothers we are on are ways to the big time. Trust in Dino (same name)

I don’t know if this one game mad either us turn the corner but it got us very damn close, we beat Miami this week and and I say we turned the corner! If we beat Miami, we expect to beat Wake Forest and BC, Florida St is very winnable this year, Louisville “scares” me the most and I still think we can give them a run. I think we have a realistic shot of winning 8 games and 7 games seems very possible.

I kinda thought Thamel was doing some of that too on Twitter. I felt so bad for Pete. Last night must have been tough for him.
I see he's got a column about it up on yahoo now. I thought he was an SI guy. I know he's a sour puss jackwagon

Jesse Palmer was a train wreck during the Pinstripe Bowl vs WVU. I have no idea how he's still employed.
