So what's your suggestion, shut it all down, or let those coaches, refs and players choose what they want to expose themselves to.

Nobody is holding a gun to anyone's head and forcing them to do something they aren't comfortable with.

My suggestion would be for as many players to try NOT to get it. All things considered they are doing the best they can. So I’m not suggesting any specific changes in protocol.

i think some in this thread suggesting “oh well they seem fine. They are young” are being rather cavalier with other peoples health.

And those people need to manage their risk differently than folks that don't. And still you can do everything right, and the people around you can, and a highly contagious virus can still find a way to infect you.
The difference here is we're more dependent on those around us doing the right things. This isn't heart disease where my personal choices only affect me. That is the reason for all the mandated precautions. Nearly 400,000 dead in less than a year doesn't lie.

And there's a lot of disease and behaviors that are more serious.
Name them.

I bet the diseases/conditions you're going to cite are either no where near as contagious, not contagious at all, or the seriously contagious ones have been eradicated by medical science.

Before you cite something foolish like heart disease, keep in mind many people live with heart disease for decades before it kills them. They don't get diagnosed with it and die a month later.

It's interesting to me these kids can have covid and within a couple of weeks be running up and down a basketball court as if nothing happened. Nobody has seemed so gassed they can't continue. Young healthy bodies I suppose.
uh until you collapse as Keyontae Johnson did. Rare heart condition from summer case of COVID. Lucky to be alive. Don't make assumptions about age, physical conditions or anything else.

Since we are all working from home, isn't the question what are we drinking at this very moment?

Wait, is day drinking during work a bad thing?

I've done more of it in the last 10 months than at any other point in my life.

I mean, it's not Mad Men over here, but still, the rules are certainly relaxed. Typically the person on the other end of the Zoom/Teams Meeting is doing it too. I haven't hit rock bottom just yet.

No! The suggestion is to do what they have been doing. Take precautions, do contact tracing, and quarantine when necessary. It is people like you and Cuserunner that are suggesting things be done differently.

And just so you know, people are actually losing their jobs when they decide to do what is safe. I read a story about a single mom that worked at a nursing home that contracted Covid and her boss told her to still come in to work. Even when she felt so bad that she couldn't get out of bed and her mom had to come take care of her and her kids, the boss kept nagging her to come to work. There are people being forced to put themselves in harm's way against their will.

The days of getting drunk on a weeknight and being out past 11. It must be cool being in your 20s, still.

You live your life and I'll live mine. If you weren't so constantly rude and belittling and afraid of you calling local authorities I would give you the name of the spot in case you choose to go out and enjoy the game. But since you are you, I will not.

You misinterpret. Simply said it must be nice to be in your 20s. Nothing more, nothing less.

Stop being so defensive, CR. Maybe take the edge off with an ice cold Coors Banquet?

His loss. He might not recover

has anyone seen a definite medical report on what the long term consequences are to anyone, even young people, of having got Covid. I don't see how they could since the virus has only been around for 11 months or so.

This hasn’t been proven yet.

Unfortunately, it only takes a few dumbassses here and there to produce an exponential impact on spread and exacerabate the situation for all of us. That some people still cannot grasp this is astounding.

Where did I suggest any of that?

My part of this discussion has been focused on the risk to the population of people playing college athletics, not the general population. And for that group of people, most things are more dangerous than Covid.

All I've been saying is level of risk for bad outcomes for that population is much different than 80 year old in nursing homes.

And again the choice of participating in college sports in on a voluntary basis, I wasn't speaking about every person in the US and that there aren't some bad bosses out there.
