Cris Carter told NFL rookies to 'get a fall guy,' video reveals

That's the mentality of a kingpin. Given what CC supoosedly overcame after getting kicked out of Philly it's even more disappointing.

Certainly shines a different light on someone that was alleged to have figured it out after almost losing his career and possibly worse.

From him I wouldve loved to hear "look I know what some of you have been through but look how hard you've worked to get past that. Don't let yourself get drug back into a lifestyle that could possibly cost yourself everything you have In Front of you right now."

Why teach them to be accountable for their actions? Why teach them responsibility? Why teach them how you're expected to act in society?

Things like this go against every fiber of my being. You've got an opportunity, a podium, a stage to do some good. And, this is how you use it? He's been giving this speech for a decade. Just because something has always been some way, does not make it right or acceptable.

I thought CC was an individual who had turned it around. Who had learned from past mistakes. I'll never be able to look at him in that light again.

I just watched the video. When he says "If they r gonna keep rolling on your bank roll". "Somebody needs to be a fall guy".

Would make total sense. If i was a pro athlete of that caliber.

This should be obvious but I guess not. Somebody speaking at a league-sponsored event should not be advocating obstruction of justice to get out of trouble

Also would like to point out the irony in that video being released is probably the result of him being somebody's fall guy.

If you live a lifestyle where you look for fall guys, there is likely someone higher up the food chain looking at you as a fall guy. In this case the nflpa or Goodell can now point to CC as a reason for players getting in trouble and say "whhhaaaa... I had no idea!?!"

All you need is that extra degree of seperation to have plausible deniability and you can stay above the ****. Happens in most major organizations every single day and always rolls down hill.

Carter is a moron. If I recall he said a few idiotic things after the Ray Rice video came out, I believe it was in reference to Rice's fiancée putting her hands on him. He didn't say she deserved to get knocked out but he was pretty damn close to justifying it. Arrogant idiot who needs to get canned for this

I agree. Clearly the only change CC made was to get better at being a dirtbag. I have always disliked him personally and this just furthers my dislike.

ESPN responds!

ESPN issued a statement, saying: "We completely disagree with Cris's remarks and we have made that extremely clear to him. Those views were entirely his own and do not reflect our company's point of view in any way."

well there you go - they let him know they completely disagree with his remarks - problem solved - well done ESPN! Oh Lord

Oh boy, a stern talking to. That'll teach him!

The ESPN pregame show is unwatchable both on Sunday's and Monday's. Stuff like this only cements how bad that show is overall. Ditka falls asleep on the set during the show. Carter is a moron obviously. Berman and Tom Jackson doing the same "shtick" for over 25+ years is boring at this point.

How anyone can watch that show is beyond me.

I used to really enjoy Tom Jackson and thought he brought a lot of interesting insight. But it seems like he's given up with everyone else making it a clown show.

agreed, he is the only professional, but when you are surrounded by the likes of Berman, CC, Keyshawn and Ditka, you might as well throw in the towel. It's beyond brutal.

I cannot remember the last time I watched an NFL pre game show. One can get all of the information on the Internet without all the shtick and hyperbole.

I'm the same way. Only part I used to watch regularly was Frank Caliendo's segment on Fox that I thought was pretty funny. But now that he's gone, I turn the tv on about 5 minutes before kickoff.

Great advice but would have been better delivered off camera. Lose his job? BS. I find it ridiculous when people want someone to lose their job every time they make a mistake that is outside the performance of their job. Too much sanctimonious politically correct BS. I think back to some of the best advice I ever received on my first day of college. My RA gathered us in his room and said "Pay attention and watch very closely..." He then shut the door, took a towel and placed it against the bottom of the door, opened his window, placed a window fan on the window sill (blowing outward), turned the fan on, then sat down and said "Any questions?" Now I'm sure many of you would think he was wrong and that he should have been preaching against the evils he thought we might be susceptible to. Some of you probably think he should have been fired. I consider it real world advice. Sometimes people need advice to help with reality because reality is not always safe and pure and...legal.

I agree with all of that. I just cannot stand Cris Carter.

BS

Real world advice would be don't smoke in non-smoking areas. Pretty sure everyone on a college campus can read. Take it somewhere else.

This coming from a guy who enjoyed college, immensely.

We have rules in place as a society that have to be followed, if you don't play by society's rules there will be repercussions for your actions. It's really as simple as that.

You want to break rules, be ready to accept consequences. Not, here's a way to cheat it or blame your buddy who doesn't have as much at stake.
