Crowd could play a roll in LSU game

I was at the Wake game and I'd say there was around only 25k there. It was still pretty loud and picked up a lot on 3rd downs in the 2nd half. Imagine how loud it would be with 50k in there. The crowd plays a huge roll at the Dome. Just remember when a few years ago 9-0 Louisville came into to town and we whooped their tail 45-26. They could barley get their plays off in time on 3rd downs. It was ridiculously loud with around 43k at that game, and if we beat CMU by a few touchdowns I can see the same kind of crowd showing up at the LSU game. I feel like a large crowd will give our young players a ton of confidence.

Get the crowd looking like this, and I think we got a chance:

The team has to play well for the crowd to be a factor. The first quarter of the Clemson game in their last visit was deafening, but Clemson never got rattled because they held all of the momentum. IIRC, by the time Jerome Smith had the huge run we were down 7 to 21. If the team punches LSU in the mouth then the crowd can get under their skin.

The law of diminishing returns applies to the crowd noise at the dome.

The 25k that were there yesterday were the vocal die-hards that account for most of the noise even when there are 40k there. The other 15k are casual fans that spend most of the game talking to friends, texting, walking around the concourses looking for ice cream, or sitting on their hands. When encouraged to make noise, they may sometimes half-heartedly jingle their keys.

Not saying that more isn't better. Or louder. But yesterday's crowd was 80% of our home field advantage, if that even exists anymore.

God I miss the 90's...

The last time WVU was at the dome was a pretty rowdy crowd, part of that was because we kicked a$$ right out of the gate.

you need to photo shop about 7-10k of those fans wearing purple and gold

Crowd noise is certainly a factor but with LSU just playing at Mississippi State - where the fans (by the thousands) bring cow bells and ring them while the offense is trying to line up and snap the ball - I'm not sure how it could be any worse than that.

Not sure why the NCAA lets them bring cowbells into the game. It's insanity in that stadium.

Maybe they have a fever and that's the only prescription

grammar police: Someone in the band might play a sousaphone, but I doubt that anyone will play a roll. Hopefully, the crowd plays a role in the game.

I think the dome will be nearly full for LSU but 1/4 of the fans will also be from LSU.

I just took a look at SU's interactive ticket map. A couple of notes.

1. As of right now, the tickets sold isn't much more than RI.

2. Whomever said in another thread that LSU was bringing 10k, is wrong. There's only a few additional sections blocked out above the usual visitors sections. I'd say they are bringing about 3k. 4k at the very most if some of their fans bought through SU in other sections.

3. There sure are a lot of tickets being resold on that site.

I'm hoping we get a good walk up or after beating CMU a rush and can get to 40k. But I'm not seeing it right now.

Has there been anything on the local TV channels advertising the game? Anything anywhere?

I always see ads for big basketball games, nothing for FB.

Too be honest, I don't know. I don't watch much of the local channels so I could easily miss them or maybe there hadn't been much.

I thought 10k seemed very high. Not like Tennessee who had the doable (but exhausting) drive up 81 the whole way.

But when I couldn't find any hotels I thought maybe they snatched them all up. Then you mentioned Parents weekend earlier so it makes sense now.

I never understood threads like this.... or the rationale behind threads like this....

the school hit the pre season with some promotions then nothing? not sure why the locals havent been circling this game, but i am sure many are still waiting to see how we end up after this week. if we lose it will be 30K, if we win they can get to 40K but the school needs to do something. Dan hasn't posted in awhile, why has the school done so little . did they even do a fball/bball promotion this year?

Complete guess but I bet the school is waiting until we win Saturday, then hit the week of LSU hard with promotions. More and more people are waiting last minute to buy tickets to many events. If you promote now, you're sort of blowing your load early. The bandwagon fans aren't going to buy tickets now typically, so hit them hard days before the game when they are more likely to open their wallet. We will be 3 - 0 but only us diehards know that, so you have to wait until the win can be marked down for real.
