D. Davis

yes why would he not? He is healthy, I think people need to remember that the challenges playing WVU on defense are much different for the next two

Does Dyshawn Davis start tomorrow?
Why wouldn't he? We played the whole WVU game in sub packages which is why he didn't play. We are going to play a lot of base against LVille.

Yup. He plays base 4-3 which we should mainly run vs L'ville. They took him off the nickel (okie) unit so he could focus on 4-3 responsibilities. As a result he's gotten better in the 4-3 and the nickel looks better with Diabate flying around everywhere.

Suddenly we have some depth at LB. Looked like Davis was an emerging star, and he can't see the field (in the nickel), because Diabate is better in the role. Lynch didn't show up much against West Virginia -- he is also good.

Last week against Rutgers, didn't Lville spread it out a little and have success with it? How does that impact our game plan?

From Orange Insider today:

Stop the run
The Cards were struggling mightily to run the ball behind their rebuilt offensive line until a week ago when Watson spread the fields vs. Rutgers and then gashed the Knights' solid run defense inside. The result was a season-high 187 yards on the ground, which allowed the team to settle into a ball-control battle of defenses and eventually prevail. Syracuse's defense must not allow that to happen. It must shut down the run at all costs and force freshman quarterback Teddy Bridgewater to try to win the game with his arm. SU's athletic but undersized front seven must meet this physical challenge for the team to have a shot.

This is wrong. They took him out of sub packages because they just wanted him to focus on the base defense and make him more comfortable and not have to think as much.

Lynch isn't in the sub packages either.

I am not debating the detail of why Davis or Lynch are in certain packages. The point is that we have 5 LBs who are capable of contributing -- a rare luxury for us in recent years.
Of course, you only specialize with guys like Davis and Lynch (let them focus on the base defense) if you are confident Diabate is really good at what you want to do against WVa.

This is a good thing, IMO

Both Davis and Lynch will be in the top 10 linebackers to every come out of SU when it is all is said and done. Davis will probably be in the top 5.

There are only about 10 posters who I would pay any attention to when making a prediction like that - you are one of them. The LB situation does look bright indeed for the next few years, great to see.
