That's probably because Bazeley didn't write it.
Most of the PT articles are ghost-written.
NY Times magazine had a really good article a few weeks ago.
It refers to the fascinating piece "written" by Dion Waiters as possibly the best thing they've ever done.

As for the Syracuse reference in the Bazeley article...it plays as an obvious afterthought.
He's trying to take care of #1...which is fine.
But that doesn't mean you should ignore obligations you may have to others...such as reasonable notice.
Pretty sure he wouldn't have liked it if SU suddenly yanked his scholarship offer.
