So whoever is the 2 and is just a play away from being in the game doesn't get not one Rep with the unit they play with ? And shouldn't they be judged how they play with the first team and against the first team D ?
Puzzling to me .

I understand what you're saying, but then again, isn't every 2 just 1 play away? Should we run all of our backups out there 1 at a time to give them a chance. Your son will play, I just don't think it's this year or next (with Dungey being healthy). That still gives him 3 years at the helm. 90% of qb's would kill to be a 3 yr starter at a power 5 program.

Everyone just take a deep breath. Coaches do promise a lot to players to get them to sign. They tell every kid they will get the chance to start. And of course as parents we eat that crap like ice cream. Of course on paper red shirting is best for the team. Of course on paper it's what is best for tommy. However every player and parent who hears the coaches promises has dreams of those words true freshman next to their sons name on the headline of the team beating Clemson. No need to get riled up. The coaches will get td reps. Td will do great. The fans will over react to every thing. The sun will come up tomorrow

You never know what will happen. This past year, our friends' son was a freshman at a school with a top level D3 lax program. He had no expectations of playing much. A few games into the season he was the starter at Attack X and never looked back.

Great points. I think most parents think like CareTaker and Bcubs, most fans aren't used to this kind of insight to parents thoughts. I personally wouldn't post things like CareTaker has, but he is just being honest. IMO Devito will watch until Dungey graduates or gets hurts.

No it was a high snap and a run and play
Same stuff in the scrimmage , we are not stupid . I hope he gets a real chance on Saturday
I don't think you can read too much from 10 minutes of media permitted practice.

If I may ask, what were your expectations concerning TD this year?

TD should RS and he will start next year (After ED wins the Heisman and goes #1 overall)

Yeah, if he's running with the 2s, redshirting looks distant.

I'll assume u mean he's in because dungey is meeting with Hawkeye and Trapper John??...
We will have such a big lead we'll put him in to get game reps.

I doubt it will be as aggressive, but I expect something like Brohm's freshman season at UL.

I think Mahoney will be back up unless Dungey gets knocked out early in the season... Then you might throw DeVito in there. I will bet anyone willing to take the bet that Dungey won't make all 13 games he just always seems to take big hits. God love the kid though, such a competitor.

He reminds me of Bill Hurley in that respect.

That's pretty much what I expect, too. If Dungey manages to stay upright, then DeVito redshirts and they roll with Mahoney as the backup. If Dungey gets hurt / misses time for the third consecutive year, then the fast tracking of DeVito begins.

Not to change the subject back to the tape...but was that mcgloster getting toast at rt?

No reason to do that to DeVito. He's either better than Mahoney and gets the job, or Mahoney has to also get hurt.

Otherwise it's best for all to shirt.

I'm with Barrel.

Eric Dungey hasn't made it through a season yet. I have a very strong suspicion that Devito is already at least even with Mahoney. If that's the case, go with the younger player.

18 months to fully learn this offense
It would be stupid to burn a season on a Freshman QB when we have a top 3 ACC level QB that is a JUNIOR, just let that sink in TOP 3 ACC LEVEL QB.
I'm all for TD getting his fair shot and I'm sure if the coaches saw something in practice where they thought TD would give us a better chance of winning then Dungey he would be at number 1.
Now if Dungey goes down very early that's a different path we will have to go down, but for now Dungey 1, Mahoney 2, and have TD use the redshirt year to fully learn the offense and get better.

Seems to me, td is getting quite the opportunity to compete. For any human, the jump to p5 should be a big one. Especially, the guy running the show... Makes perfect sense, that he needs to show mastery of the run half of the offense, first. Until he master's the offense, he'll have to rely on it more, anyway... We're on step 1, and he's already with the 2's... I call that getting a chance to compete.. these things take time.(1yr 4 games, for normal humans, according to Dino.)

Patience. it will happen when he's ready.

Can't climb the depth chart when your being held back ! Not what we signed up for !

Looks like he's climbing up the depth chart to me. I will add this if you think a freshman can come in and beat out 2 seasoned players and said freshman has zero college game experience you're shooting for the stars. The game is so much faster than this practice and I'm sure if TD was blowing ED and Zach away he'd be in there. I'm rooting for the kid but it's like why would you want to put your son in that situation in the ACC? Nothing wrong with saving him I'm sure it will payoff in the long-run. He's up against a 2 year starter that's getting national press. I get being competitive but at some point that fire is going to get someone burned.
