Day Sixteen Fall Football Practice: #20, 8/22/16

He's not gonna put on 15-20 lbs between now and the Colgate game.
That's ok though. It looks like he's the number 3 guy behind two sophomores. By the time he becomes a high volume guy he should be closer to a 190-195 lbs.

Kauffman was 5-9, Sproles 5-6. Neal is 5-11. 5-11 169 is skinny for a running back. I assume that if they are keeping him there they expect he'll be adding 15-20 pounds in the next couple of years. I agree 6-3 195 maybe a little skinny for a running back, too, but it's not quite as bad.
It's not all about weight. It's about skill set, as someone else mentioned. At 6'3" a guy had better be a hoss and/or have remarkable shiftiness for his size for him to play RB. At 5'11" a guy naturally has a lower center of gravity and potentially better lateral mobility.

Most NFL and college RB's are at or below 6'. The guys bigger than that are the exception. It's much more likely to see 6'3" guys at WR.

It may turn out that Neal ends up being that Dave Megget type that is versatile but never sees the bulk of carries at RB.

Right now it looks like Butler is the best receiver out of the backfield plus he is an easier target for a qb to hit coming out of the backfield. All about getting your best skill players on the field.
