Day Ten Fall Camp: Thurs., August 10, 2017

He reminds me of a undersized DE Pitt had the last couple years. Believe his name was Price. Some guys just have a nack for pass rushing. Ellis gets underneath blockers with great leverage and speed despite his height. Violent with his hands too.

I don't think that either Fagan / Trotter [true frosh LBs] would be candidates, as both are around 200 pounds.

RSoph LBs Cullen [212 pounds] and Troy Henderson [216 pounds] are interesting candidates, as neither one seems to be able to get on the field. Cullen is such a good athlete -- could he find a niche as a situational pass rusher who just uses his speed / athleticism to try to get upfield and make disruptive plays in the backfield? Might be a path to PT. Interesting thought.

Fagan/Cullen were my thoughts about potential movers. Fagan seems like a red-shirt candidate especially with Valdez on board now so I figured he could cross-train there and if the injuries really hit perhaps he might be ready mid-season. For Shy I think this would be a great move. It doesn't seem like PT at LB is in the cards for this year and there is a lot of LB depth on campus and coming in again next year. As you noted he is a great athlete so he could really play that situational spot and with some training/coaching maybe even drop into coverage.

i know he's been mentioned, but man did Qaadir squander an easy track to showcase his talents.

Does shy have the height? He has the quickness and toughness, i wont dispute that. If theres a kid with the mental toughness to switch positions this late in development, id say he's a great candidate

Pretty impressive even though it obviously a highlight reel. Showed he could blow by a guy with his speed but also was able to power by a few blockers as well. Hard to believe he didn't have any P5 offers. Kid could be a steal. Need to get him on scholarship.

Is he a definite walk on? Or is this a guy we were thinking about blue shirting?

Tommy D with a 30 yard zone read run for a Td today

To who? Was this a full scrimmage? Who were the DE's? :D

Edit: ooops, it was a run. Tell him not to run, we don't need him hurt!

Thought he was a preferred walk on but I could be wrong. Either way if he plays like he did on that film he will be on scholarship soon enough.

Babers was super vague about it when Bailey asked him last week. But yeah, if he doesn't have one, I hope he earns one.

It's after Aug 1. He may already be on scholarship.

Dino isn't talking. ;)

We definitely have open schollies now with Clark and the other kid DQ'd. Would seem logical to me.

TFW you forgot there was practice today and you have nearly 70 posts to wade through of links and insights from your Internet Friends

It is hard to believe and I can only assume it's his height. The kid was First Team Georgia All-State Class 7A at Defensive End. That's Georgia's largest classification. His Roswell team was loaded.

I love that he's not only strong and mean as a bull but now he has a chip on his shoulder and something to prove. Fingers crossed the kid is a gem.

Six Athens area football players make All-State first team

Couple inches taller, he'll be at Georgia. Thats fine, we will take him. They missed on Cam Lynch too.

Didn't scrap the offense. Just sped it up.
Completely different offense. He opened camp in the same pro-style offense that he had put out there in years prior. Zone read wasn't a big factor during those years, gap was, zone was the base moving forward. We literally ran IZ/OZ all season. Wen't to almost exclusively gun/new play-calling mechanism. This is not something you do in a week.

Hackett was a wreck bc he thought he was inches from getting fired, he literallywas told by DM that basicall you need to do this and do it immediately. People around him thought he was going to be fired within the first couple weeks of the season.

They put in the zone read in the spring. This preview from early camp talks about it, and no one knew about the speed up until the first game.

Ellis reminds me of the guys who made up the "four wheel drive" line especially Blaise Winter...not as big but just as strong and a lot quicker/faster.

Part of the plan, not base. Yes, they had Zone packages, like every team in America, but, it was not their offense.

By reading the articles, it's obviously part of the plan moving forward, but, it wasn't intended to be their entire offense. I'd imagine they wanted to integrate it until getting the younger guys more suited for it up to speed. All I know is that preseason camp started one way and finished another. And it wasn't in an orderly, planned fashion.
