Day Three Fall Football Practice: Monday 8/8/16 6:45 am

you dont think it's normal for an 18 year old high school kid to come in and gain muscle (get bigger) over 4 or 5 years of college S&C ? stop.

kids might like these guys S&C but it's not like there's not other schools doing the same thing. its the S&C job at every school to get gets bigger, stronger, faster and they do.

we can go through the rosters if you want.

Do you think it's normal for jr/sr linemen to drop weight and add muscle, given the 3 years prior data? I'm not trying to say that the new S&C staff is all that different than other staffs around the country. I'm saying there is a difference between the old staff (both coaching and S&C) and this one and that it's noticeable for all of the players. Bailey has said so and so looks bigger, so and so dropped weight and gained speed - in regards to all of the players, not just freshman.

There's been a philosophy shift - and Babers has talked about it.

Without a doubt. Each staff emphasized different things to support their schemes. Babers seems to know exactly what he wants, because he has done it before, it is pretty cool to watch as he implements his philosophies. How can you not be excited at the direction this team is going?

The confidence he and his staff have has got to be infectious for the players. Noticeable changes everywhere have to help with faith in the direction.

I cannot. Wait.

i think it's normal for a 6-0 170 kid to put on 20lbs by the time he leaves or a 158# kid to be near 175/180 by the time the leaves.

We've seen lineman here drop pounds when required to do so and we've seen incredibly strong OL here in the past. It's well documented that there is a philosophical difference between S&C but kids gained lost weight with the old one to.

It stands to reason that young kids get bigger stronger faster every year they're in college S&C.

I'll be watching the development of the OL from Wisconsin who only put up his bench press 4 times. that's bad.

Wow, Devin Butler looking very impressive in the Day 1 & 2 hi-light video. Saw at least 4/5 catches, uses his hands, creates some separation, good body control.

Alot of guys look good in shorts, but, I bet he plays.

I think it's normal for most kids who go to college to put on weight and muscle. That's what happens. Our previous S&C staff did things one way and wanted weight/strength - Babers seems to favor speed/strength and endurance (which makes complete sense within the systems he runs).

I'm not saying it didn't happen within our football program under the guidance of previous staff's. I'm saying that the demands that this system and Babers has of his football team is different and the fruit of summer #1 is evident.

I see it as a shift in philosophy. You see it as same old. We'll see on the field.

(I'm sure the OL from Wisconsin will develop or he won't be here. That's ancillary to the things we've been talking about, no?)

Looks like Bailey accidentally copied and pasted his notes into the article.

DONTAE STRICKLAND

transition, picking up where we left off, mental reps are big

Being out there in the backfield is still a little different than the slot. I'm still getting used to it.

hardest part is protections not LBs, not DL

Just watching film, getting on the same apge as him. Taking reps together is one thing, but mental reps is the main thing really.

remember notes, get on pre-snap and get into position

tried to add a little more muscle 200 (197)

trying to maintain weight in camp

You've got to take it with the same mentality, just act like everyone's the starter.

defense and offense competition

Custis: Long, tall, 6-5 guy. Him making the guys's and everything has been real impressive

We need as much depth as possible on the field. Him being at center is an other guy we can put out there.

He brought a lot of blitzes in the inside.

not much A-gap stuff in spring

JORDAN FREDERICKS

almost 230, down to 210

Coach E, Sobol, Wayne, Jose

morning weight room, changed diet

eating more veggies, less fatty foods

Little by little, you see your body just change

snack go to granola bar instead of doritos, water instead of gatorade

Hopefully on television, I lose that 10 pounds in my gut from last year.

During the spring, I used to stay on the field for about four plays and be gassed, Now I can go up and down probaly twice, hopefully, and be fine.

roomies

We know it's going to be a battle. I'm loving it right now. He's pushing me harder, I'm pushing him harder to get better. And whoever the coach picks the first week, it's his choice.

working on planting and going up after first touch

We get home, we joke around. He might be on a video game and we'll just talk about what happened in practice a little bit. We don't argue about anything; it's great. You expect people who are playing the same position and fighting for the same spot to argue, but he's laid-back, I'm laid-back and we just like to have fun.

It's going to be a major difference. We're going to get a lot of carries. The major thing is just to stay healthy out there.

Usually full pads on day 4.
2 days helmets & shorts, 1-day uppers, 4th day full.

Everybody has a different philosophy though. Some coaches don't like to spend alot of time in full pads, some utilize every second available to them. I'd imagine that Dino's less about physicality.

Hoping that on Colgate depth chart we see Custis as starter and Butler as a backup. Twao and Cornelius do not offer similar athleticism
