DB Ja'Had Carter / Portal from Ohio State to NC State

Think he makes it to the NFL if he stays at CUSE

I know he has the confidence that he’s going to go to Ohio State and start right away and he should….however, things don’t always work that way. Much more likely to be recruited over there.

If he all of a sudden finds himself 2nd string his road to the NFL just got a whole lot harder.

May the odds be ever in your favor Carter
On your first line …. Yes

This decision is about the "now". He needs money to help his family and I am sure that is priority one. Of course making the NFL is priority 1A. However, there is no guarantee that he makes any money from the NFL so he made the right decision and I back him 100%.

Do any of you NIL estimators have any real knowledge of what players are getting? Or are you just throwing crap against the wall to see if it sticks? If so, then I think Carter is getting $5 million, nothing less! :p

All I know is it’s probably more than what Cuse could offer. I’m hoping he does well and knocks its out of the park for OSU. I can’t stand that program but I’ll root for this kid.

I have no idea but I would bet it’s much more than $50k. I say that because I believe the Syracuse collectives would give him more than that.

Am I not seeing something……Carter was a good player for us … very good, Ohio State will have 2 or 3 , 4 or 5 star kids coming in plus what they already have . Doesn’t add up to me . Seems a risky cash grab.

It’s just strange that it’s not transparent, though I suppose it doesn’t have to be. It’s just not something we’re used to as fans, the not knowing why someone left.

Not that we are entitled to know, it just feels like there isn’t closure.
I agree but the more I think about it no one is motivated to publish numbers :

- athlete doesn’t need to advertise to IRS considering much of this money may be cash

- Boosters don’t want to disclose bc other athletes will use as leverage to negotiate. Plus muscle memory from decades of handing kids bags of cash prob keeps a lot of this stuff quiet

- Programs like OSU & NCAA don’t want to advertise how gross it is to buy up every player bc it draws attention to the absurd imbalance the portal / NIL combo has created

Making the NFL is long term more financially stable

We have a solid collective here at Syracuse that stopped both Mikel and Tucker from leaving cuse last season with some big $$$$$ offers from other programs

I’m not sure why everyone thinks we don’t have the collectives to pay money and that we just let a guy like Carter walk

I think people are confusing life changing money and $ that helps day to day for their college careers, not just for them but their families. Either way they are maximizing their earning potential, RIGHT NOW. So it kind of is- life changing? Whether they make it to the NFL or not? Well if they are good enough I bet they will make it and I don't expect Carter to sit at OSU from the looks of it he will start day 1 there.

SO even if it is 50K? I bet it's probably the low end and probably 2 x that well good for him.
On the other hand he was a guaranteed starter at a P5 program that has a fairly strong reputation for sending dbs to the League, including some who have left early. If he and his family needed $50k that badly I’m sure agents would be lining up to lend it to him against his NFL salary.
And at tOSU they’re trying to recruit over him as we speak.

Those are definitely logical points, makes sense.

My thought with him is why not stay where ur coaches obviously know how to get guys in nfl. I know he might make a few bucks but he is going to make more in the league with his abilities. I would keep getting coached up but it’s not my decision.
OSU has no problem putting kids in NFL

Wouldn't shock me at all, position of dire need for OSU as well. I do agree with those that OSU will bring in a bunch of guys and let it sort itself out which for Carter could back fire but he did secure the bag. I do think he will wind up starting though

In general are these are these numbers every year or a 1 timer?

I have no idea was just curious
athletic piece was interesting -- some were one time, but most indicated they were 3M over 4 years or something like that. It was interesting seeing how some of the guys didnt get any though. I bet they'll be annoyed when they read the piece...

Of course, when asked how important NIL was, they all ranked it second or third behind the coach, playing time and other factors. I think that's kind of BS and was hoping someone said it was one to be honest. But alas...

I dont understand the thought that if he doesnt play as much at OSU it hurts his chances at the NFL. If he can't start at Ohio st then he is not making a NFL roster anyways.

Don’t necessarily think that’s true

You could have two 5 start safeties who would be in front of you….

There’s 32 NFL teams…..

If he isn’t starting at OSU it just means he got beat out. But then he can’t showcase his skills like he could at Syracuse

NIL has made this on the table instead of under the table. These are tied to SSNs and bank accounts. The IRS knows who's getting what.

So pretty sure both Mikel and Tucker per others on the board were offered deals from other schools and yes they were in Nil here but were offered more. Mikel and Tucker stayed for reasons beyond Nil supposedly.
That doesn't negate per se your statement that Syracuse has a good collective, it's in place and likely getting larger. Just not sure that is what kept them here from what others have said.

Why are you assuming the 5 star is better? Potential doesn't mean better. There's different variables that determines playing time. I dont get the assumption that the higher rated player that plays at a blue blood is better. If thats the case then every NFL player would be a 4 or 5 star and we know that's far from the truth.

Carter's production was legit against really good teams. With a great game against Clemson. I don't think he is worried about 5 stars. I am guessing he gets plenty of play at Ohio State. If he puts the time in and prepares like a pro he will be very successful I am sure.

I was just reading an OSU forum and they think Carter starts. They are pumped and believe that he is an upgrade to what they lost. Made me sad.

after watching their last few games, they should want most of our Defense (at least the starting unit from Sept).

How much of the NIL money is coming from the schools?

They should want our previous DC and our current DC as well. Their current DC, Jim Knowle's system is boom or bust and was completely exposed in the last 2 games. guys were WIDE open everywhere

Agreed. I mean, how many times have we seen a guy get a chance to start (who originally was riding the bench) and blew the doors off the opportunity? Ja'had might get buried in a depth chart with 4 or 5* guys, who he's better than, all because the coach favored one over the other? Look at the Packers. We had freaking Amari Rodgers returning kicks all season while Keisean Nixon played tik tak toe on the sidelines.
