Class of 2021 DB Julian Neal (CA) Portal to Arkansas

Julian Neal seems like a fine player with good size for his position.
Last year he started 4 games and played in 12 for a pretty good Fresno team. He had decent production but nothing that screams game changer, especially when he transfers up a level in competition.
Prior to last season he only played in a handful of games in 2 years and was not highly recruited out of HS.
Now he is the top portal defensive player with offers all over the place.
Alot of people are drooling over this guy. I don't get it. Id like to have him on my team but what is the huge draw...

I honestly would like to know what I am missing here...?

Is the portal fairly dry atm and maybe now after spring games there'll be a boost? I haven't been paying close attention to this.

CB is a huge weak spot for us and it would be a big boost to get a veteran name in the room?

For sure, I did miss the season he played 11 games so him being a veteran is more true than I originally thought.
I definitely would want him on our team but #1 in portal? I guess I should go look at the available players in the portal.

How he was recruited in HS is irrelevant if he’s a 3rd or 4th year player. I think why so many teams are after him - it’s extremely hard to add experienced players with good measurables this late in the Spring and a lot of teams need more depth at CB.

I guess I just overestimated quality and experience available in the portal.
A guy that started 4 games at Fresno st being #1 in portal caught me off guard.
I was just thinking maybe he was highly recruited and then had some injuries that held him back could have helped get him to #1.

Probably fair to expect post Spring game that some guys may get the "talk ". You will maybe get a few who wish to go as their decision as well. That said we also have some freshman coming in July. Gotta believe that we will see attrition one way or another to get the counts right.
Sure, but numbers wise we wouldn't even come close to 85. That's a looooooooot of guys getting the talk given who we expect to have coming in from the freshman class remaining.

Number one as of right now. Meaning still available. (Though Nico jumped him). Still a 92 rating.

It’s going to be 105.

Pretty much a done deal.

They’re also taking about having some sort of “grandfather” period,
so schools don’t have to cut dozens of walkons immediately.

Good point! "as of right now." TY... At least on 1 site he was originally #44 CB.
I stressed I hadn't been paying close attention, #363 overall & #44 CB to #1 Defensive player in portal is a dramatic jump...good for him!

&~ hopefully we get him, experience does count.

But whatever...Ill keep our CBs rankings that entered the portal to myself, even 5'7" 160# JoJo with a solid ranking top 20 CB. I really dont buy into all that crap anyway, I am a wait and see guy. I DO really hope JN kills it here.
But lets get a grip.
The latter clearly not directed at you Richmond.
I appreciate you guys but this portal, transfer and NIL has created a race of false excitement & expectations.
The dude started at Fresno 4times in 3-4 years, shrunk 2 inches since HS, has 2 ints in 3-4 yrs and he is gonna dramatically help us or Mississippi State?
Well, I hope its us, besides he is #1 now even tho 100s already signed.
But still..if we get him we could go 10-3 +...if we don't we could go 10-3+

Petty little observation, but I don't recall "Syracuse" being above the block S graphic before. Or did I just miss it?
It was there early on in block S history.

It was added when they were pi$$ing back and forth with Michigan State about whether or not they (MSU) owned the block S trademark/copyright.

It was removed when the issue was resolved.

At least that's how I remember it. Any corrections would be appreciated.

We are a developmental program; Cuse can’t compete with SEC and Big Ten money. Once they get a player they like on campus, it’s over.

We need to have multi year contracts ASAP in order to compete. At least we can draw buyout money from schools that take our best prospects

Being at the lower middle end of the ACC pretty much equates to the very bottom of the SEC, B10, and 2/3 of the B12
