Class of 2015 DE Brandon Ginnetti (CT) TO URI

Maybe one of the DEs could be moved to TE.
I often (selfishly) wish we could have seen Ron Thompson play a couple seasons of TE. Always thought he could have been really special there.

Not sure what that exactly means. He already signed in February. Does that mean he's arriving in August to enroll?

No. I don't think he signed an LOI.

Edit: He was reassigned to the class of 2016 in 12/2014 so he never signed an LOI yet.

He's going to enroll in January 2016.

So who now clears him to be able to play?
I can only make assumptions here, but I can only assume a specialist who he has been seeing following his injury on his own. I think that would be a violation for a player not yet on campus to have team benefits. Or worse, examining a non-bound player with team personnel and deciding if they want him based on physical condition.

I guess I was thinking about the story of the kid at Michigan that claimed they were trying to push him out after he got on campus because the staff decided he wasn't able to play.

Got it, never signed in February. Signs in August to enroll in January.

The guy Harbaugh was trying to run off? He was like a sophomore or something.

If Ginnetti hasn't signed yet, Syracuse can still back off. But I don't think they can professionally examine him with their own staff.

Maybe signing financial aid papers?

My confusion on the Michigan kid. I guess my concern with Ginnetti is that he hasn't played football since 2013. Somewhat similar situation to Dawson.

Ginnetti isn't Dawson. He played baseball in high school if I remember correctly. He doesn't have an immune deficiency disease - he has a broken bone. He will be Orange.

Ginnetti was a hold over from the 2015 class after injuring his foot his senior season. Now he says he's totally in the dark with Syracuse.

He says SU is still his top choice and ideally he'd like to enroll in January, but he hasn't heard anything from the coaches.

This has shades of what happened with West Lindor. Weird situation.

@Stephen_Bailey1
Have heard the same. Kid is medically cleared, FWIW the coaches are on vacation until the end of next week.

@OrangeFizz
@Stephen_Bailey1 He said his HS coach Joe Linta talked with Shafer today and that it sounds like SU is "iffy" about him enrolling -CM

I'm not the only one who felt that this might happen, right? Weird situation. Wish the coaches were upfront when he still had time to enroll somewhere else, with a scholarship, on time.

I've been skeptical about him ever winding up at SU, too.

Unfortunately for Ginnetti, recruiting is really improving, and he is likely getting recruited over before ever having enrolled. I hope that everything works out for him, no matter where he goes.

I don't think he is getting recruited over per say. I saw a picture of his foot after he got the infection from the surgery and he was sitting for a long time. I would say they may more question if he is physically able to play at the d1 level after all that. They may want a prep kinda like Dawson to see

If a kid gets recruited over, so be it, but it'd be nice if the staff was upfront about the situation.
I agree. It sounds like the staff is on the fence, and were likely biding their time. This article forces their hand and now they have to make a decision.

He was only medically cleared by his doctor a few weeks ago. And how many programs are going to take a chance on a kid who hasn't played FB since 2013.

Didn't SU accept his commitment while he was injured? I think that's what point some of us are making. If you have doubts about health, grades, ability to play at the ACC, then you can't accept the commitment.

People get all over kids for changing their minds, but coaches need to honor their end as well.

Whatever the reason, Syracuse isn't a program that can go out there alienating players, even if there is good reason to back off on taking him. Just be upfront about it, it sucks but that's better than going radio silent. The kid isn't going to forget that he has a Syracuse scholarship and go do something else.
