I had heard he was dead set to Texas as well as others on here.

He visited Texas and I had assumed he was going to commit.

He instead came and visited us against VT.

I think we have more of a chance here than we think

It’s not. It’s the same stuff we always read on here. If (insert power program name) wants a recruit we won’t get them.

Maybe. But he DID take an official visit to Syracuse, so there's a puncher's chance at least.

And perhaps more importantly, the relationship-building might pay off down the road. In this new era of the Portal, recruiting isn't just about short-term payoff. If the kid does end up at an SEC [just going off what your post suggests] and eventually transfers, Fran might be able to capitalize.

So however it works out, getting this kid on campus was a big deal. Time will tell.

IMO, this is Fran and Co. vs whoever, not SU vs whoever. We are piggybacking off of Fran’s rep and brand, right now. Once he starts winning big, then we will be cooking.

I think the SEC and Big Ten are always going to be hard schools to beat as they have the most money, the largest and longest history of diehard/rabid fan bases.

The things we have going for us over a lot of those schools is early playing time, being the man on campus, chance to build massive legacy, and easier road to CFP going thru the ACC.

yup, I think he's got a great relationship with Nick. I can see one visit as a favor...but two, given the timing, is more than just a favor. Now will it win out in the end? Who knows, but this would be...a game changer from a narrative perspective for Syracuse, both with the media and other recruits. Just getting him to visit twice gets attention...

That's sure an interesting top 4. Have to believe we at least have a shot. Also, hope we can keep Nick for another year. Fran had an interesting comment about his relationship with the coaching staff.

Correct this one was official but Hilson has visited earlier this year on an unofficial which was his own dime. Samuels also visited unofficially 2-3 times earlier this year. It’s nice to see these guys getting up north on their own dime which shows genuine interest as opposed to token official visits that happen.

Since then, several schools have been in the mix, including Texas, Texas A&M and perhaps most notably, Syracuse. The Orange don't have the cachet that the blue bloods do with recruits, but head coach Fran Brown learned under Georgia's Kirby Smart and is looking to make Syracuse a destination for top talent. Hilson took an official visit to Syracuse earlier this month, and if he were to commit to Brown, he'd instantly become the Orange's headliner. But holding off the Longhorns and Aggies will be no easy feat.

As I have said, right now Syracuse isn't recruiting against these schools, Fran Brown is. His reputation is our cache. His promise to restore us to former greatness.
Once he starts winning, then the name on the front of the jersey will be part of the hook.
