Or, they stop kids from playing football at a competitive level for a few seasons and it's much harder to get back into football shape after a mission...

I agree, the Mormons have historically gone on to dominate CFB and then the NFL because of this advantage.

BYU coach was teased about that by Babers on the NC coaches broadcast. BYU coach laughingly put it down saying that the mission is more likely a detriment because all the players do on them from a health and nutrition perspective is ride bikes and eat rice. I think then he realized he was in bad territory with recruiting and possibly his administration so he shut up.
