Class of 2025 DE Quante Gillians (NY) COMMITTED TO SYRACUSE (6/16/24)

With the transfer portal, any HS recruit lost can always be gained back. Hope he does well. NY improving in D1 prospects is good for SU.

Mich needs to beat NW to get to 6 wins now.. Unless they beat Indy in 2 weeks.

Hope he stays in the class but if he flips, he flips. Can't do anything about it and I'm not going to worry about it.
Do you care about Syracuse Football being successful at anything?

I feel pretty strongly that anyone on this site does. But with today's climate in college sports, I don't feel it is wise to get worked up with student-athletes (that was hard to type) who don't end up at the school you like. There is too much movement, defections, and back door promises. I am not sure I blame the kids either, mostly. This is the system that they are given.

Completely agree. Plus with the proliferation of transfers, if this kid picks Michigan, there's a decent chance he transfers anyway.

Best to keep good relationships with all HS prospects. Should go for fans too.

So what do you want us to do if he flips?

Storm Hendricks Chapel?
Yeah that's it. The old false extreme extension. All I'm asking is to feel something, anything related some minimal level of angst. The least amount of some feeling related to losing. I am such a fan of Syracuse Football I feel emotion related to every little thing. I know your going to mis interpret that into some extreme emotion. I truly don't quite understand when fans feel absolutely nothing when a great recruit de commits. Not some extreme emotion but some small appropriate hint of something related to losing a terrific recruit.

10, 15, 20 years ago I was more like this, now if we lose a recruit, I'm like, "Son of a biscuit lover" and then I move on with my day.

After about 65 years of being a fan, you either learn to accept recruits decommitting, or go crazy. It still is only a game. As a Veteran who served from 1964-1968, there are a lot of more important things in life.

Portal lol if the kid goes to another school and flames out or doesn’t do well, we don’t want him back in the portal.
Agree on most aspects of this statement but there are going to be plenty of time where the kid chooses in this case Michigan but over the course or 2-3 years misses home and we still want him!

But yes, we don’t want kids who aren’t good.

I know what you are saying, I really do but It's recruiting, it happens. Always has always will. Move onto the next. I think everybody here wants the kid to stick but as with any competitive venture, there is a winner and there are losers, nobody wins all the time.

I don't like losing either but it does happen and at the end of the day as a fan you have no control over any of it. How are you suppose to react? Yeah losing like we did Thursday night is a completely different type of deal, it still happens but getting pissed at a kid changing his mind, not really going to get out of whack over recruiting these days

The portal and the free transfers have made recruiting much less interesting for me personally. The chance a high school recruit ever plays for your team becomes smaller every year it seems. I still enjoy practice reports and attending the games but recruiting doesn’t hold my interest anymore.

There's much bigger problems in the world. My sports team losing a 17 year old recruit doesn't affect my life one iota. We'll get another and move on.
