Went to Vegas Thursday to Sunday and saw the Friday and Saturday night shows.

It was my first time in Vegas (my 2nd will be for the UNLV game). I don’t gamble, but the people watching was exquisite. Stayed at the Palazzo and made great use of the pools there and at the Venetian (connected property).

Went with 3 friends and had a wonderful view of the Sphere from our suite. Very cool Steal Your Face imagery showed on the outside of the Sphere most of the weekend, interspersed with other ads. Very fun to see from the room.

The venue itself is amazing. We had floor seats both nights and the set up was great. Lots of room if you did not want to pack in close. The floor space itself was fairly small, so even standing against the back rail, you still felt close to the band.

Everything inside was pristine. Brand new and set up nicely. Easy to get to the bars and bathrooms and almost never had to wait long during the show. They even had waitresses walking around the floor taking orders and delivering drinks.

Getting to the Sphere was all indoors from the Palazzo/Venetian. On the way back they did route us outside and way around the back of the property which was a bit annoying, but not too bad.

There was a Dead Forever Experience in the casino. It had some of Mickey Hart’s art, photography, David Lemuiex’s cassette collection and various merchandise. We were lucky enough to meet long time Dead and JGB roadie. Big Steve Parish and he could not have been more gracious. He did have a negative interaction with a fan who kept shoving a Jerry gnome in his face while we were trying to talk to him, but what a story that we will always remember.

Friday’s show was great, but had a very mellow setlist and vibe. Highlights were a very early first set The Weight, a great 2nd set St. Stephen and a great Sugar Mag to start to wind things down. The Sphere was a great addition to the show with the aerial view of San Fran and a western theme at times and a rainbow road type graphic for those Mario kart fans.

Saturday was the gem. High energy, wonderful graphics and videos, including a trip to Barton Hall and Egypt. Highlights were a great Maggie’s Farm and the best Black Peter I have ever heard live.

All in all, a wonderful time and I would highly recommend checking out the Sphere if there is a band you love playing there.

Anybody else experience this yet?

Saw U2. The venue is amazing, every nook and cranny is set up with the consumer in mind. The sound was pretty incredible. There's enough video out there on it - me going on won't do it justice.

The odd part is seeing a mega band with everyone basically facing forward. I suppose it's a good thing but the sing-along stuff worked for the band to hear but for the audience not so much.
