Devante McFarlane not returning for 5th season

Good luck to him. Can't say that this is a major shock. I wish him well in the future.

Hate to say, but this was the one player that I was expecting that would not return. Was actually hoping he'd go to safety, since that was his best projected position coming out of high school. Wish you well, Devante.

I knew this for awhile fellas, just couldnt share. He liked the coaches just didnt feel a fit. He may go to stonybrook or wagner but is leaning towards going down south somewhere. Ive known Devante since his his juinior in HS. Great kid, I wish him the best

I'm really hoping that we can let some of the young guys (Neal, Culpepper) sit this year out. I hope this doesn't hurt us.

looks like we'll be able to take 25 kids next year; heading in that direction.

Was thinking that too, but not after Neal's spin move on Taylor, he needs to play now... And Culpepper should be backup from Day 1...

I think Mahoney can be a serviceable #2 and let Rex get his redshirt..if he's backup from Day 1 then he'll only have 1 year of eligibility left when Dungey leaves.

I agree I would much rather see Rex redshirt. Hopefully this thing becomes a flammable snowball though and the QB recruits flock.

Mahoney has zero accuracy, and our system requires great accuracy. Can't see him winning the #2 or even the #3.

What's your thought on no redshirt for Rex? Coming off a knee injury and behind a sophomore #1

I don't like redshirting QBs as freshmen. There's a chance he never plays anyways this year and that's his shirt. Or he plays this season but next year we have a healthy Dungey all season and he takes the shirt then. Ideally we're recruiting over him because we want to be a better program.

Fact of the matter is you don't throw away 2016 by playing Zach Mahoney to save Rex Culpepper just in case we need him as a R-Sr. Especially with the talent discrepancy the way it is. You play to win in 2016, not to save Rex for 2020.

Or when Dungey gets another concussion (sorry for the pessimism)
