Dibella's Subs is a sub shop headquartered in Rochester that apparently has locations in NY, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and even Connecticut.

I never heard of them until they opened a location in Syracuse. Today was the grand opening of their new store on Bridge St in DeWitt. I attended.

There was a big crowd there. Had to wait in line 10 minutes to get an order in, but they were very efficient. Got an Uncle Louie (roast beef, ham and turkey) on a sesame seed roll.

The roll was really good. From what I understand, the rolls are a big deal for them. I can see why. The veggies and meats were of high quality too. Combo meal with chips and a soda was $11.10 American. I recommend stopping by if you like a good sub.

Why post about it on the basketball board?

Well, while we were eating our subs, my friends and I noticed a distinguished older gentlemen in a USA warmup suit patiently waiting with everyone one. It was JB. I was interested to see if anyone behind the counter would recognize him, ask to take a picture with him, etc.

No. The kid who waited on him just took his order, made his sub and sent him on his way to pay for it. And no, I don't know what he ordered.

So if you want to have a possible encounter with a hall of fame coach with a large but fuzzy number of career wins, you might want to hang out there.

DiBella's sub shop in DeWitt will open Wednesday, not Monday

its a Roch sub shop, tastes much like the Wegmans subs.

not sure Ithaca needs more sub shops but we have one opening here too in the next few weeks.

Apparently Wegmans is an imitator of this place.

Allegedly they're good, though I don't know that there's a crying demand for more cold-cut subs in this market. Then again, stopping in here would be a lot easier than getting a sub from Wegmans.

Correct. Wegmans "stole" the concept from DiBella's. Trust me...DiBella's is much, much better. Enjoy.

DiBella's is pretty good. There are a couple in the Capital District. A Jersey Mike's recently opened by me and is better.

Jreck's can't possibly be happy about this development. ;)

Believe that Wegmans consulted or partnered with Dibellas in creating theirs. Don't believe it was the typical copying job.

As people mentioned, Wegmans paid dibellas for consultation. So if you like Wegmans subs you will love dibellas subs.

I like DiBella's and love Wegmans. I think DiBella's rolls are a bit harder. Or maybe one isn't clued in at DiBella's to ask for the juice.

Subs? And this is posted to the Basketball Board.
And if we post about prison GUARDS is that on the BB board too?

Just had DiBella's a couple of weeks ago here in Fairborn, OH... "The Godfather" sub is always clutch.

Dibella's is fantastic. Always loved going there when I lived in Rochester. Loved their meatball subs and their cookies too.

Love Dibella's, pretty much the same as Wegmans subs but usually you can be in/out of Dibella's quicker than Wegmans.

I miss Jrecks.

A former friend visited me with her boyfriend probably freshman year and when I said we should go get a Jrecks he looked at me in horror. Because in Yiddish "dreck" means basically poop.

He was pretty happy with his sub though as I recall. :)

Agreed. I'm in Cleveland/NE Ohio. DiBella's is decent and Jersey Mike's is better like you say. Both are better than Subway or Jimmy John's but all should generally be avoided like most chains.

It takes a lot to get me write a Yelp review (4 in total) but one was on Jimmy John's ...
"This was the saddest excuse for a sub I've ever encountered. How many things does a sub place need to get right? Reasonably fresh ingredients. Good bread. That's about it. Bread was horrendously without flavor of any kind and was stale. Roast beef bad. Not remotely rare. Tomato and lettuce - processed and flavorless. Notice the flavorless theme here? Staff was friendly, so I guess they have that going for them - which is nice. Seriously - why would anyone go more than once?"
