Dibella's Subs Comes to Syracuse

It takes a lot to get me write a Yelp review (4 in total) but one was on Jimmy John's ...
"This was the saddest excuse for a sub I've ever encountered. How many things does a sub place need to get right? Reasonably fresh ingredients. Good bread. That's about it. Bread was horrendously without flavor of any kind and was stale. Roast beef bad. Not remotely rare. Tomato and lettuce - processed and flavorless. Notice the flavorless theme here? Staff was friendly, so I guess they have that going for them - which is nice. Seriously - why would anyone go more than once?"
Like most franchises, it's all about the management. I've had more than one good sandwich at a couple different Jimmy Johns. Sounds like yours was in a failed store.

Truth be told, Jimmy John's is a pathetic sub. They are very cheap and thrive at making the subs/sandwiches very quickly, expediting orders, and swift delivery. College slop. A time and place for Jimmy John's.

Anybody ever have the misfortune of trying one of these? I had better food in my high school cafeteria.

I only ate the cheese ones, Swiss and provolone please, hold the American cheese, with oil and vinegar and mayo and lettuce and tomato and onion and hot peppers. They were way better than Subway's cheap as two or three measly pieces of American cheese on a veggie sub. No wonder Jared the perv lost weight eating them. :vomit:

Man, this thread is made me think of Lombardi's and Vince's and all the great Italian places in Syracuse. Also, what about the Brooklyn Pickle! That place can make a sangweej fast.

I have a friend that works at DiBella's, he says they make Wegman's bread every morning and send it to the stores.

Aunt Cookies. Geneseo. People who have been there know.
Aunt Cookies is outstanding, went to school at Geneseo, hit up Mia's & Cookies every month or so still. My mouth has started to water just thinking about it. Can't wait for Kelly's to reopen.

DiBella's might be my favorite sub shop (although we have two other places in Rochester that are close; Pellegrino's and Amiel's). I rank both about Wegmans, and I love Wegmans subs.

I recommend the Cowboy: Thick-cut bacon, BBQ sauce and all white meat chicken topped with cheddar cheese.

I think I've been exactly three times, each in a college town. They were friendly and very fast, but such a mediocre sandwich. The one substantive advantage I could see over the competitors is that they had fresh avocado available with an upcharge. This plus bacon are obviously good enhancements for a subpar roast beef sub.

Still, it's like someone else said: I've never had the urge to return since my last visit.

Yeah, if you're anywhere in Onondaga County, take the extra time and go to Lombardi's. Their bread was baked a few hours ago down the block at DiLauro's, they'll cut the meat in front of you and put anything on it, and it's still under $5, if memory serves.

One of the most under-rated sandwiches in my opinion is a Steak Sub from DiBella's but the key is American Cheese. I usually get it with sweet and banana peppers on an everything roll. I promise you won't be disappointed. Dibellas and Rubinos are two of the best subs in Rochester!

I like their BLTs because I can't find another place that does them since Arby's took it off their menu. But that's about it

Pellegrinos was my jam when I lived in Roch. Chicken Fajita sub was crazy good. If I could just have that and Country Sweet out here in San Diego I'd be happy as .

Kases and Kegs made an awesome sub. My favorite was the Shortstop Deli in Ithaca. Publix makes a better sub than Wegmans. Jersey Mike's is overrated. I think that's all I've got on subs at the moment. :)

Well the owner of Jimmy Johns floated this barge down the St. Lawrence in front of my house this summer. Somebody is buying his crappy subs.
