Did the run blocking improve or was it just garbage time stuff?

soft D by the noles. dropping back and keeping people in front to thwart a quick strike. textbook prevent.

who cares what D they were playing.. we couldnt run against anyone so far.. you still need to block the dline no matter what d they are playing.. is soft D by FSU still not better than what Liberty threw out there and we couldnt run

this wont be received well.

would love to see 70/30 on touches between Adams/Howard and move Moe to the slot over Riley.
That should have been done 3 or 4 games ago. Also lets give Jordan some time on returns, he might break one.

Who cares what D the other team is playing.

Agree. We couldn’t run against Holy Cross but we started making progress against FSU backups.

Thats progress. I’d like to see some more of Adams and Howard this week. I know Moe had some big runs but Adams and Howard each averaged over 5. Give them more chances.

The system Briles knows so well involves rules about when to run and when to pass. I’d bet Babers comments about being a bit more stubborn about the run and the move away from zone blocking - allowed us some push and movement where we wouldn’t get it normally

edit -and this is a good sign. I wonder if Briles/Babers system has been figured out a bit and they need to switch some things up

Big difference was Adams getting more touches by far and away better than Moe

Moe led us in rushing with 74 yards and had the longest run with 25.

For a couple drives in the second half, we went away from a zone blocking RPO scheme to a drive blocking designed-run scheme. The running lanes were much more open.

Our line looked marginally better, but I don’t think our linemen really grasp their zone blocking responsibilities. For the few times yesterday that they were asked to put a hat on a hat and push, they seemed to do okay.

Our problem is that we've been blocking zones and not people.

25 on a horrible fsu defensive call that didnt look for the draw at the end of the game

I went back to watch these drives. Pat Davis really played well. He had the nice pull block on the Adams 2 yards TD and was pretty solid in pass protection.

upperdeck will have to include the play with 8 minutes left in the 4th quarter, which I think was the final sack we gave up. I re-watched all 5 OL. Pat Davis was the only one who held up his guy, but he also had help from Bergeron. The problem with that double team is that the DE lined up across from Bergeron just had a free rush. It was one of those where even he was surprised and took a wider turn than he needed to.

As for the others on that play. Servais was pushed about 5 yards backwards by the other DT with just one shove. Vetorello stayed in a spot and only used his right hand to block. Adams just backed up into DeVito. It was kind of funny watching over and over again for each one.

And that was the play that #23 for FSU “drew” the flag on Vettorello. I don’t know how that guy for FSU, or Taggart for that matter has any pride at all. He probably doesn’t. If one of our guys ever does that, I hope Dino benches him. They HAVE to start reviewing those.

Maybe the guy averaging 5.1 or 5.3 would have more than 74 rushing yards if they were to get the same 20 carries instead of 11 and 6 respectively. Or maybe they would have only had 3.7 per rush like the guy who had 74. Guess we’ll never know because I’m fairly certain we’re not going to try to find out.

I don't think it has. What would any offense do with devito holding it all day and a line that can't function at all?

Yeah, I assume the offense has a plan somewhere in the book about countering a blitz.

We either can’t plan against it or execute against it, or both.

I agree - and it might be hard to tell given the OL, but after Maryland I think Dino said they had to change some things that were “tells”... no follow up questions, no more info. Don’t know - might be totally off.

I hope it’s not the case

Moe averaged 5.6 yards per carry last year. He's not our problem.

Doesn’t mean he’s our solution either.

What would happen if we featured Adams a bit more, we’d lose? Not be able to run the ball? Have a bad day on offense?

Doesn’t matter. We’re all waiting until next year anyway.

Why do we run up the middle 95% of the time and pass to the sideline 95% of the time? Is this just me or is this accurate? Seems like we never use the middle of the field in the passing game. Like I said, maybe just me. We hit the TE down the middle of the field for a TD and never see it again, granted it was versus HC but whatever.

All I know is that Saturday we played the best half of offensive football we've played all year in that second half. And it wasn't all just attributable to prevent, FSU going through the motions, etc.

Is it a sign that the offense might have turned the corner? Evidence that the reconstituted OL has some potential? Did things finally click for DeVito?

Time will tell.

Precisely why the OC needs to go.
