Did we try to hire Charlie Strong?

His clock management skills were laughable last night. Hen needs a quick lesson on why you use your timeouts when on defense.

I kept wondering that too, stop the clock and extend the game when you can't control it, i.e. on defense. But then I realized once Bridgewater took a sack that it's possible he saved those timeouts for offense knowing his true freshman athletic QB was likely to make such a mistake, no matter how many times you told him don't take a sack.

He wasn't a candidate because Oregon "promoted" him to HC the day before he was set to fly out for an interview. It was understood that unless he tanked in his interview, he would be offered the job but it never got to that far.

It may have been interim or some agreement that Belloti would retire after the season to make way for Kelly. Donnie Webb wrote about it in the PS.

This was my recollection as well

Oh God, I didn't know that.

I also recall reading that the guy Gross "spent the most time talking to on the phone" (or some such construction) was Lane Kiffin. Thank heavens that never panned out.

Why not? Louisville was pretty bad when he got there
To a large extent, coaches have to act like realtors when selling a program to recruits. Get the kids on campus, show them around. Now if you had your choice, would you rather be showing Papa John's Pizza Mansion, or Buzz Shaw's Bungalow?
