I keep reading over and over that the school can’t afford his buyout. So the AD entered into a contract the school couldn’t afford to enforce if it decided to? This is fiscal mismanagement on his part and maybe he needs to be evaluated. He basically signed Dino to a guaranteed contract no matter the outcome. So it was just to keep him here and make other schools pay huge money for him, but ties their own hands at the same time

They can afford it. Doesn't mean they want to enforce it right now and cut off their nose to spite their face.

These things tend to be paid out over time like an annuity. It wouldn't cripple an AD with all the money coming in from the ACC, etc.

Can we stop with the discussion of SU letting Dino go? Our team finally looks competitive, has a terrific RB, a QB who makes the running attack go, young players (Ellis, Chestnut, Wax, Thompson) who are gems. The team beat Liberty then played exciting games to the wire against favored ACC opponents. SU isn’t going to fire Dino over time management or judgment calls, when the roster and overall play is obviously better.

I've been under the impression that this is how it works. He has an employment contract. Except for probably a few exceptions, the expectation is he works for the term set forth therein, and is compensated accordingly. Any "buy out" is mutually negotiated between him and the University. So, his "buy out" is the value of the time left on his contract. Not sure this is new or novel with respect to Syracuse.

The greatest concern at the time was that Dino would be poached away by a program like USC or some $€¢ team for whom money is no object.

In those instances, the buyout is there to:
Potentially dissuade that.
Provide for a war chest to hire a new coach and staff if it happens.

People forget that the downside of a buyout is -
That the school needs to pay that to make the coach go away, if he’s no longer getting it done.

Llvll gave Petrino a HUGE buyout, and then had to can him.
I’m pretty sure Fedora got the same at UNCheat.

And SUNJ famously went and spectacularly outbid NOBODY,
to give their coach an entirely unneeded extension, only to then fire him the following season.

In Dino’s case, the extension was warranted.

And - it is NOT the reason he won’t be fired.

Wildhack knows that change for the sake of change is rarely the correct move.

So how long does SU overlook 2-3 extra losses due directly to bad coaching mistakes? You are basically saying that, as fans, we have to except bad coaching because SU doesn't care nor should we.

No, you can complain about time management or in-game decisions. Have at it.

‘SU is going to look at the bigger picture. The play on the field is competitive and exciting. The program is run with integrity. The recruiting seems a little better, based on young guys we see on the field.

‘Fans are always going to complain about decisions to punt or not, go for 2 or not, run more or pass more on first down, accept the penalty or not, manage time we’ll at the end of a half. Part of the noise.

Pure silliness. Lots of folks had their minds made up after last year and are clinging to "coaching mistakes" as the last credible reason to fire a guy that has righted the ship.

We're as good as we have been since 2018 when we we won 10 games and gave the eventual National Champs all they wanted at their place.

It's time to let it go and enjoy the ride.

He’s not going anywhere. All this talk just hurts recruiting. Questionable coaching decisions take place everywhere and if that was the reason for replacing a coach they would need a coaching portal. Don‘t you know fans all know more than coaches and know exactly what should happen on every play.

This coming from the guy that was all in for Tommy to be the starting QB when it was apparent to many that GS was much better.

So recruits are going to base their college decision on a fan forum?

You can't afford it is business speak for "we have no chance to get and retain a better option" I would be shocked if Wildhack is looking for Dino to leave. My guess is he views those two losses as correctable coaching issues. If you believe that these games are late decision mistakes it could be remedied by Dino allowing someone to guide those decisions, and if I'm Wildhack I mandate that.

Can we at least let Dino and the team play the next 6 before we buy him out? is that possible?

They aren't letting him go or buying him out anytime sooner than the end of the last game and at that point we will know what the final record is and the body of work for the 2021 will be completed or we may make a bowl game but no sooner than that will anyone know the future of the Coach.

Recruits read message boards.
Parents read message boards.
HS coaches read message boards.

If you had multiple job offers, and if everyone spoke negatively about one of the companies, wouldn’t that influence your decision?

I was wrong. I’m ok in admitting when I am.

<really long pause>

It’s ok to admit when you are wrong.

cough

The issue w this will be that people will be mad that we waited so long to start the next process of bringing in a coach. There's no right answer but the timing will be key here if we don't win another game this year.

They fired Shafter and GERG before end of season and it set up the next guy better than P getting fired after a bowl game (which was preposterous still)

Not sure if any of you heard me on Exit 31 on ESPN Syracuse yesterday (Exit 31 10-11 at around the 45 minute mark) but I basically am of the opinion that a team with a Heisman caliber RB, an above average defense (that reverts to average from time to time), and an emerging exciting young QB, should be better than it is. Seems like every time there is a tough call of late Dino is making the WRONG one. That being said...

I am NOT a member of the #FireDino brigade. I am not about calling to end someone's livelihood. But. Something MUST change and if he is not able to dramatically change his philosophy such that HE is no longer causing us to lose games with his decision making and time management, then the buyout needs to at least be on the table.

Part of the problem here is the issue of the dying on a vine element. USC avoided that long narrative by cutting bait early. Which is the less damaging outcome on recruits? It's a dilemma.

ALL fan forums have negative input. That is why they are FAN forums.

If our recruits happen to like Dino and Swag Daddy, etc…, and if they’re out of the picture, do they stay committed?

How many “known” recruits would we lose in a coaching change vs how many “unknown” recruits might we gain with a different coach.

Red pill / blue pill.
