Dino’s buyout

If our recruits happen to like Dino and Swag Daddy, etc…, and if they’re out of the picture, do they stay committed?

How many “known” recruits would we lose in a coaching change vs how many “unknown” recruits might we gain with a different coach.

Red pill / blue pill.
This team seems much like Mac's 1986 team talented but not able to win. There was a great number of people who wanted Mac gone. There was a lot of talent on that team that turned around th program for 12 years. We have a QB now who is getting comfortable with the offense.
It's time to stay the course, and roll with the punches.

Kinda done that the past two years…..

I’m still under the we need to make a bowl game or bust mentality for Dino this year

especially after we have seen that this team does have talent and is capable.

Because if we don’t win 6 this year it’s squarely 100% on the coaching staff

The 86 team had injury problems out the wazoo at the beginning of the season.

Guys got healthy, and the team finished 5-2.

Well, I'll feel MUCH better about 2022 if Rob Moore is coming through the transfer portal.

No, you can complain about time management or in-game decisions. Have at it.

‘SU is going to look at the bigger picture. The play on the field is competitive and exciting. The program is run with integrity. The recruiting seems a little better, based on young guys we see on the field.

‘Fans are always going to complain about decisions to punt or not, go for 2 or not, run more or pass more on first down, accept the penalty or not, manage time we’ll at the end of a half. Part of the noise.

The AD is going to look at both, the bigger picture and the W/L record with the latter getting the most scrutiny because that's what matters at this level.

Pure silliness. Lots of folks had their minds made up after last year and are clinging to "coaching mistakes" as the last credible reason to fire a guy that has righted the ship.

We're as good as we have been since 2018 when we we won 10 games and gave the eventual National Champs all they wanted at their place.

It's time to let it go and enjoy the ride.

Can we at least wait till teh season is over before saying he "righted the ship" regardless of how much better the offense has looked this year and how much more competent the team is overall, were still 0 fer against power 5 teams and staring another losing season in the face with the remaining schedule. I know some of you guys want Dino back no matter what but in year six I expected more then "hey we almost beat some ACC teams, ship righted"

Sure, but the AD knows where we stand in the food chain. We aren’t a program at this point that fires a coach for going 6 and 6. Bigger picture - how much better is this team, overall, than what we saw with GROB or Shafer or Dino’s 2016 and 2017 team or 2019? Do you like the recent coaching changes - the DC and OL coaches? Do you like our aggressive, mostly young defense? Do you like Shrader and Tucker? There are enough positive signs in the program to take firing Dino off the table.

I sure do enjoy a ride where we lose but “look good” doing it

Can we get to 6-6 more then 1 time in 6 years before saying we should keep him. We are about one of the only P5 schools who accepts losing records if they look “promising” doing it

It's possible to be massively better and see a credible path forward for the current staff and not make a bowl (but I think we will)

Did you account for a massive season upending global pandemic in your 6 year expectations?

If you want to withhold the "ship righted" until we see more fine, that's why it was my opinion. If we're on the same trajectory we've been on the last two games for the rest, I'll keep you seat warm on this wagon

This is, in a nutshell, the problem with using W/L as your defining metric. The ACC is missing it's CFB playoff contender at the top - but it appears all the teams on our ACC slate are improved over years past.

And it's not about "accepting losing records" it's about "do you think the current HC and staff can get us to where we want to go" ... after 2019 and 2020, it was looking very wobbly. I have more faith in this staff now because of our performances in 2021. I'm pissed that we didn't win the last 2, plus Rutgers - but it's undeniable that we look better. The stats back it up. The eye test backs that up.

Yes it is possible to better, I noted that in my post that the offense and team looks better then last year but again this is year six not 2 or 3 so perhaps I am not giving it as much credit as you are but again the team is improved there is little argument there.

Yes we all know about COVID and the issues it created for every single program in America. I get it affected SU heavily but it did for most programs. During the season SU actually handled it well, what it didn't handle well was the injuries and a complete lack of any sort of competent back up QB which is 100% on the staff.

Yes I will definitely hold off until I see more, I like that the team is playing better but its an odd time to take some sort of Babers victory lap when the season has six games left and we've already lost to a bad Rutty team that's been pounded by every other P5 team, lost to one of the worst FSU teams of the last 25 years and have a HC who still struggles with the basics of clock and time management.

100% agree with these sentiments.

We had such a weak OOC schedule this year, and the ACC is weak sauce as well, with currently only two teams ranked in the Top 25 being Wake and NCST. What, did I hear that right, Wake & NCST! Wow, that speaks volumes right there. Wake is the higher ranked of the two at 6-0, but who have they really beaten worth a darn?

What also speaks volumes is how so many here seemingly manage to rationalize/accept the consistent losing due to the competitiveness of the losses...in year 6 nonetheless. We have yet to win a P5 game this year, oh boy, but we almost won, should've won, but, but, and more buts. Excuses out the ying-yang! There's that saying for those that make constant excuses...

Bottom line, at this level it's about wins and losses, at a minimum, winning more than you lose. Additionally, Dino's overall ACC and P5 record here to date is flat out putrid.

We have 3 wins. We’re kind of far away from a 10 win season. Let’s at least finish the rest of this season before we start handing out stickers and participation awards.

The program has positives, unfortunately it also has a lot of negative indicators. Dino has been a poor on field coach his entire tenure. The worst thing is he insists his bad decisions were not bad decisions, which means he can never self correct. I can live with mistakes by coaches, I can not tolerate mistakes which are never corrected and that is our current situation with DB. He is stubborn and rigid. He refuses to self correct.

I keep reading over and over that the school can’t afford his buyout. So the AD entered into a contract the school couldn’t afford to enforce if it decided to? This is fiscal mismanagement on his part and maybe he needs to be evaluated. He basically signed Dino to a guaranteed contract no matter the outcome. So it was just to keep him here and make other schools pay huge money for him, but ties their own hands at the same time
If I had won the recent $700 million powerball I had a line item in my budget for the buyout.

As alarming as the losses piling up is bad recruiting. 13th in ACC. BC and Pitt have very good FB recruiting. Why can't Dino? Why do both those peer programs recruit so well now and Syracuse does not? Why? I'd like to hear Dino's explanation in Year 6...yet you hear nothing. Crickets.

If recruiting does not improve considerably it is all a moot point. You can't run a successful program with recruiting 12-14th rated in ACC. Consistently. Firing is guaranteed.

The buyout is his main protection. Yeah, he could be bought out. But they would rather not. It is a lot of dead money and admins and trustees will want answers. No matter what record, 3-9 or 5-7, the can will be kicked down road for at least one more year.

No firing this season.

The constant chatter of changing a coach doesn’t give recruits confidence that the coach will be there if he commits.

Neither does going 1-10 the previous season and having 4 out of 5 (and potentially 5 out of 6) losing seasons but here we are.

Bad recruiting? What? I reject your premise. Have you been around long? Been through one of those threads?

Then I guess we are a lower program than Boston College because they said that wasn’t good enough for them.

So recruits are going to base their college decision on a fan forum?

I've often brought up this point too. But when we're on national TV against a high profile program and half the seats are empty, I'd guess a few potential recruits may start googling some fan forums.

Free speech though, but at this point all this talk isn't helping solve a problem.

(and consider the source and my track record on these things)
