Back in September, Dino was near the top of the list.

In mid-October he dropped several spots (4, considering that the USC coach was fired).

It continues to surprise me about all the anti Dino rhetoric. This team is the most enjoyable we’ve had since Mcnabb. VERY easily, the team could have only one or two losses. AND it’s on the rise. Settle down everyone.

The McNabb years were great but 2012? With Nassib was fun. 2018 was great and reminiscent of that era. We ain’t there yet. It’s fun, but not at the level of either of those two teams

I disagree - respectfully. Both 2012 and 2018 were very fun - for sure. But I'd argue this team is better - despite the 4-4 record. 2012 we finished very strongly and went 8-5 - including some miracle wins (Missouri game was one I recall). With Marrone - we eked out wins. At the very end of 2012, the team was clicking and won its bowl game easily - but it wasn't a great team by any measure.

2018 was also a joy - and getting to 10 wins incredible - unbelievable, frankly. (I admit, it's a tougher argument for me to say the current team is better than 2018, but this is my opinion.)

I'll argue that this team is more dynamic, stronger on defense and has a bigger upside - horrible special teams notwithstanding. We have lost 4 games by an aggregate 19 points. You can all mock me if we finish 4-8 - have at it! But if the trend continues, as I hope, this is turning into a very good year. And I hope an even better one in '22.

Remember that LSU fan's ideal season: beat 'Bama, win the SEC, win the National Championship, #1 recruiting class, fire the head coach.

Why can't that be the culture here? We've gotten soft fellow Yanks. We're supposed to be the stone cold MFs that are so crazy no one would dare mess with us.

I agree. Let's get to a bowl this year and build a stronger team for the future!

I agree with everything except that the 2018 was the most enjoyable team we've had. Still angry about that Pitt game and refs refusal to call forward progress on the Dungey "fumble."

I was travelling during the Pitt 2018 game and was at a wedding during the Rutgers 2021 game. I have been good at missing the most infuriating games lately.

Well, we "could" have had only one or two losses but we also have a couple of close wins to our credit as well. Our record, realistically, "could" be anywhere from 7-1 all the way down to 2-6. 4-4 is probably a fair assessment of where we are, considering that you have to be able to pull out some more of those close ones when you have the chance. If it were "very" easy we would have done it.

The 2018 team was the most enjoyable team since McNabb. The current incarnation with Shrader has been fun but it is always more enjoyable to win.

That’s why wins are poor indicators of improvement. Wins are the goal - but don’t tell the story well

I think 2018 was more fun because we didn't have the early stumbles of this year and had Clemson on the ropes at their place. Wnat I like about this year is that so many key proven pieces return for next year.

The record over a long period is actually the standard measure by which coaches are judged in virtually any sport. I agree with you that improvement needs to be looked at with amore nuanced eye. That is one reason why using last year to gauge improvement this year has to be taken with a grain of salt because a one-win season is such an absurdly low bar to improve from.

I think that most P5 programs would require Dino to get to 6 wins this year in order to be retained, if looking at the entirety of his tenure. On the other hand, I have come to believe that he keeps his job with 5 wins. He has to get those 5 however. Beat BC, pull a rabbit out of the hat once out of the final three, and we can all breathe a little easier.

For sure - that’s why I worded it that way.

Over the long haul, winning % can be a crude but obvious tool if you believe the guy can’t get it done. It’s not *why* you fire a coach - it’s how you explain that you’ve lost faith in the coach to reach the goals laid out (that’s why you fire a coach). This is counter to how fans look at it - but I think central to how AD’s look at it.

I think if you cut out last year as weird, you can end up with a narrative that keeps your faith intact. This year has already proven a re-jimmy of the system and bold hire on D can put us back to being competitive in the ACC.

I don’t think he’s getting fired this year, no matter what. If we have a 2019 type year in 2022? And he’s at the end of his buyout? He’s gone.
