For those who pay particular attention to recruiting.

What is your assessment of Dino's efforts at this stage of the game?

What do you think of the athletes he is targeting?

What differences do you see between what he is doing and what Shafer did?

Thank you.

Love the effort they are putting out.
Underclassmen offers seem to be for great athletes
Really can't give much more judgement till we see a full class

Hard to gauge for ANY staff that has such a limited time to come in and get established. We'll know a LOT more after the next three weeks, I'd say.

do you think he can start to get any of the type of guys he wants here that quick?

assuming that bowling green recruits are a notch below Syracuse recruits (i know, bare with me here) is he right now targeting P5 guys hoping to get them to flip from say backing up at baylor to come here and start?

is he swimming in that pool?

Getting in the door with a couple of higher rated kids late is big and speaks well to Babers rep. I'd be shocked if we struggle to get WR or QB's moving fwd.

The areas they are targeting are pretty different (FL being the major similarity).

We have an outside chance at a top 40 class.

I think this year will be the low water mark in the Babers era, especially on offense.

We'll find out--no way of knowing if he has that cache until we get some more commits. Right now, our class is only about half full. If we get all BGSU / Western Michigan guys, I'll be a bit disappointed, but still shrug my shoulders and hope that they are system fits for what the new coaches want to do that will help us hit the ground running a bit faster than the roster we had.

If he lands some of the upper echelon talent we're chasing--Fitzpatrick for one [Huff is another, who's already enrolled], then they are kicking butt. And once we start to win, I'd envision that recruiting will go to another level with these guys.

Agree 100%.

quick hit. Right out of the gate they flipped a blue chip Florida LB prospect who was committed to Virginia.

It's hard to swim in that pool on such short notice but he appears like he might be able to. In the 3 upcoming weekends he was able to secure visits from kids committed to 8 other schools. These kids all appear to be high major prospects including the Central Florida kid who might be Scott Frost's premier recruit. He's a Class 8A all-state running back from power house Daytona Beach Mainland HS.

They've also got visits schedule with two 4 star kids with bonafide offers. WR Dez Fitzpatrick and OT Stewart Reese. Reese is a Ft Pierce FL kid and has offers from the elite with upcoming visits to Miss St and Florida State. He's visiting Cuse this weekend. Fitzpatrick is the Detroit player of the year with offers to Michigan etc and visits to LVille, Nebraska, Miss St, Indiana. He'd been committed to LVille for more than a year.

1/22/15
Devaughn Cooper (Arizona Commit) (O) AZ, ASU, Michigan, Colorado, Wash, WashSt
Sean Riley (Arizona Commit)

1/22/15
Kentrail Moran (Illinois Commit)
Josh Black (Illinois Commit))
Jaquwan Nelson (Miami Commit)
Rashad Smith (FAU Commit)

1/29/15
Adrian Killins (UCF Commit)
Armunz Matthews (USF Commit)

Dino's (and Staff) efforts have exceeded expectation imo. Not to pile on Shafer but Dino dumped half of his recruits and if things go right Dino could pull in the highest rated class at Syracuse since coach P.

One other kid worth mentioning. Hoop recruit Matt Moyer’s buddy from Columbus Ohio is official visiting Syracuse. Malik Harrison is a 6-4 205 pound athlete who has an offer and visit scheduled to Ohio State (and Wisconsin) among others. He's a Columbus kid and Ohio State is obviously a monster, but Dino’s staff was able to get this done; and Moyer’s relationship gives us an added bonus.

Harrison visits 1/29

I don't think it would be fair to judge his recruiting off of this class although I'm sure some will try, he needs a true year to start the process, next year I bet we are Top 40

Very impressed. He has added what seem to be solid coaches who are also known as good recruiters. I think that he is going to light it up. I thought that Shafer did a good job last year which seems to be proven by the play of our true frosh. Dino should be able to build on that and take it to the next level. Very impressive so far. Lets see if he can pull a couple of miracles out in the next few weeks.

I agree with Phat's take on Dino's recruiting. It appears that he and his staff are quite confident based on some of the offers to upper echelon kids. I attribute this to the attractiveness to HS kids of his style of play & the upgrade that Syracuse and the ACC presents. I think they expect those flips because some only declined to a5 BG because it's not P5. Love that they know the type of players they want for each position.

I like the recruiting relationships these coaches build with recruits that have allowed us to get these visits from some high profile recruits. Coleman's commitment yesterday is a good example of that, Rach of the assistants seem to be very good recruiters.

Offers to me don't mean much. Who accepts those offers and makes it to campus matters more. If he's able to get a couple of the 4 star guys to commit, that would be awesome. I understand taking WMU and BG guys because of the familiarity and (at least in the BG kids) that they fit the system. Would've liked to see Brouse, Brinson and Palmer retained, but I understand why he wants to bring in as many of his guys as possible. So far, it reminds me of the transition from Marrone to Shafer in the sense that we lose some players and we're recruiting different areas. I'll just take the wait and see approach. He was my favorite realistic candidate as coach, so for now I'll just have faith that it all leads to more wins.

At this point, I don't care. It's all going to come down to how well the offense transitions. If it goes the way I think and we light it up, and the idea of coming to the Dome to be part of an elite offense catches on, we'll see big time recruits. It's actually pretty simple.

I think he needs to bring in some linemen. We've got pretty good play makers. Also, I hope he doesn't go after highly rated guys we aren't ready to get. When he really gets the offense going would be the time to go for the 5 star guys.

He's got to close on these kids, of course, but that's how it looks to me, too. He's shooting high and he is getting looks from talented kids. Style of play, plus a super-positive attitude, plus a proven head coach at two previous stops. I think we are going to be surprised in a year or two. It feels like he's off to a really good start.

I don't like the fact our coaches seem way bigger then our recruits.

not impressed at all--he appears to be a mac guy all the way---but wait and see

I know it's your opinion, but I don't think this is fair at all. At least try to back up a statement like this with some kind of reasoning?

imo for taking over in December he has set himself up to not only exceed expectations, but crush expectations. "If", and I know it's a big if, but if we can get Fitzpatrick, Reese, and any of the top RB recruits, to go along with Ruff, as well as securing the commitments of Neal, Culpepper, and Heckel, then I don't see how anyone can knock the guy? I'm just excited to see what is in store offensively in the years to come. imo we have some serious offensive talent for Babers to play with. Obviously we were all impressed with Dungey, but having weapons like Ishmal, Fredericks, and Strickland, will give him toys he has yet to have at his disposal. I think Ishmael could be a bonafide superstar. I give the kid credit for being a team player, and not complaining the past 2 years when he was ignored, despite being the best player on the field. It seemed to me he could beat his guy most of the time. I think his speed is under rated, and he runs great routes. He has even become a great blocker at the position. I'd be very surprised if Ishmael doesn't emerge as a star in this offense. I think he is the surest thing we have going into 2016.

basically i do not disagree. however the people u name, are they not shafer guys? u r right re ishmal, but the most underutilized was strickland. as for crush expectations---what does that mean??? expect what, 3* mac guys???i am in the guys corner, but don't sell me a bill of rah rah goods as we have heard all this before. otherwise we will talk again in a couple of years. lets see who he brings in. that's my backup, what is yours???? i would be more than happy to say babers is the savior. as i said wait and see---and i hope...

Almost all of Baber's time as head coach has - to this point - been during the "dead period".

And much of that was time with an incomplete staff.

Yet some of you have negative feelings/opinions on his recruiting... How is this even possible?

Talk about negativity.
it is about folks declaring HIM a savior is the issue ---u are right-- so why do people say he is great??? stop with the orange bs and wait and see---stop with setting up unrealistic expectations---start with OBJECTIVITY---AND TIME.
