Dino's Game 9 Press Conference | Pitt

Dino lost faith on the 3rd down call, but then found it again on the 4th down call. It was the strangest decision and sequence.

Couldn't believe we didn't run the ball on 1st or 2nd down. Make ND burn their timeouts, hope Tucker can bounce one outside.

That TD we gave up after starting with the ball on their side of the field with just 1:42 left was about as bad as any of the turnover TDs.
Punt was the right call

Hindsight is 20-20. If we make the first down and go on to score it’s a gutsy call. ND was not much of a passing threat, but they get one of their few long pass plays . So it blew up in his face .

Not hindsight

100%. He never should have played. Minimally after the second series when it was obvious he couldn't run he should have been pulled.
I dont think Dino is a good and or quick decision maker. Its not his strong suit. I do give him credit for eventually pulling Shrader but he should have made that call Wednesday or Thursday vs at the half.
I wish he would let his OC and DC make these decisions.

How do you know they didn’t?

I think the head coach would be watching his QB the week of the game when he knows he was injured in some capacity the week before. He's not just telling the QB coach "hey it's your call" and you know that but nice try
Of course, he is. I like Dino and I'm sure he knows what Hes doing i just don't think he makes great decisions on game day and the more he can delegate to his assistants the better.

The problem is Shrader had been absolutely horrible up to that point. To have faith that he would convert there is insanity.

The other issue was time management. We took over at the ND 42 with 1:42 left. Our goal should have been to score, while also burning clock. We had plenty of time especially with 3 TOs. So why were we trying to go fast? Why with an ineffective Shrader were we passing it the 1st two plays? Why after the 3rd down run take a TO before 1 second on the play clock? It is crazy that we ran 4 plays and only took off 32 seconds.

Lastly it was 4th and long. There isn't a high probability of success even with a 100% Shrader.

The first two plays imo are because that’s who Anea is. That’s why we’ll be better off with Wilson because he is a better thrower.

I did not mind the playcalling because even with two runs and the pass we still could’ve been fourth and six. The healthy Schrader gets the first down on fourth. So I throw all that out anyways.

We can crush taking more time off the clock and the time out and all that stuff but at the end of the day Notre Dame scores because Justin Barron allowed the tight end to get behind him, it was really inexcusable defense

No, it’s not
Look up the word hindsight. You posted that he should have punted . It doesn’t matter one bit if you believe your own opinion. Unless you sent out a statement before the play then it’s hindsight.

Dino isn't downplaying CDRW because he thinks he can dupe the Pitt coaching staff into thinking he is a bad player. Dino is downplaying CDRW because he is a true freshman playing in his first game, and only played one half of football. He is also downplaying CDRW to squelch any question as to who the starting QB is on this team. He is playing it exactly right.

BTW, Dino is allowed to say all those things and still start CDRW against Pitt. No harm at all

And Shrader started this game because Dino most likely thought that a semi-healthy Shrader was better than a healthy freshman backup. He can be excused for being wrong in this instance. As Dino has said before, if you pull out your starting QB (when talking about Dungey), you better be really right.

No, it’s what I thought at the time. You can think I’m lying, thats up to you.

No There is no lying . I actually looked at the dictionary definition.

in no world can Barron let the TE beat him on that route. He had cushion and still got beat on a pretty simple play.

Shrader doesnt throw the pick on the first play that had nothing to do with an injury and who knows. We followed it up with a nice drive..

Was he injured from throwing the pick then because he couldn’t even make a football move to attempt to tackle the guy with the ball running past him.

looked like he was basically a straight ahead runner and no way he was making cuts. But his throwing all game looked off as well.
