Dixon's ugly smirk

It did seem like he thought he had the game in the bag. To be fair to Dixon, I was impressed when he went to help Fair up off the court. Should point out the good that people do, too.

I noticed that as well. Thing about him too is he was riding the refs all game and meeting them on the court on stoppages to non stop blabbing in their ear.

Yeah, I saw Zanna help our guys up more than once, too. Big contrast to Georgetown - I remember JT2 taking big pride in saying he told his thugs NOT to help anyone up, to let them expend their own energy getting up.

I think the worst smirk was right after the technical. It lasted for about a minute straight and was downright hideous.

I went crazy when we got 0 points out of the technical & was convinced it was going to haunt us - so glad I was wrong!

Dixon looks like a rat. Sometimes I also think he could be a used car salesman with that slicked back hair.

He looked like the Joker in Dark Knight Returns

I'm rewatching the game now. On Syracuse possessions, now at the 7-6 minute mark, Dixon consistently has 2 toes, and sometimes feet on the court. When Cooney is working to get open, Dixon's feet and presence have to be a distraction.

At the 6:15 mark, Dixon is on the court, leaning into the refs ear, on a Syracuse possession, obviously complaining about something Syracuse is doing on O. Aren't there rules against being on the court?

When the ball goes downcourt, Dixon is out by the Carrier mark.

All that said, I think the smirk is part douche, and part a way to instill confidence and toughness in his team. He is a great coach. His team moves and passes exceptionally well. And I love their toughness. But, can't stand him.

I was right next to the Pitt bench and he bitched the whole game. If it wasn't him it was his assistant walking up and down the floor throwing his hands up.

I can't stand Dixon. He comes across as very arrogant to me. His recent comments about Pitt winning more games than any other team in the Big East, by a pretty big margin was a little over the top, not to mention, untrue. They did win the most games, but I believe it was by about games. And I read one of his post game comments that he said Pitt Should have won last night... I wasn't able to find a full post game pressed, but how about giving Syracuse a little credit !

We had a pretty solid lead until Patterson hit those 3 deep 3 pointers in a row!

This! Pitt could be up 25 points and have every call go there way yet he'd still be constantly working the refs. I feel like Dixon spends to much energy and planning trying to figure out how to get the game called in his favor and how to be physical and get away with it. I think he would be a better coach if he used more of his effort elsewhere. Its quite obvious with the rule changes he's gotten his guys to do far far less on the ball grabbing and deterring. Off the ball again much less. I'd also say that the moving screens where few compared to previous years but he has had his guys crank it up on he rebounding action foul every single time even after the other team gets the ball. It was wild to watch guys jumping sideways into players jumping straight up, shoving often with two hands in the back (esp. on their own ft shots) going over the back and then of course hacking the arms of any opposing player that had the ball. To his credit its what kept them in the game to his dis credit he continues to find a way to uglify bball and seems to base his strategies on breaking the rules and getting away with it. Get some better recruits and teach that same ball movement passing offense while only taking very good perimeter jumpers and he would have more success later in the season IMO. I can see Pitt's front line getting into all sorts of foul trouble in the NCAA's early round all ready.

During most of the timeouts his assistant was having long conversations with the ref, I couldn't believe it. Most the calls were going their way so I had no idea what he could possibly be complaining about. I wonder what it's like when the calls aren't going their way lol.

Agreed. It's not the ugly smirk to me as much as it is the smugness that goes along with it. This is a coach who (although I think he's a good one) has never accomplished anything significant in coaching - underachieving and smug - unlikable combo.

I most noticed the smirk... when he conned the refs into calling that timeout when both teams were scrumming on the floor in front of the Pitt bench. I made a point of mentioning it in the chat room. There are smirks... and there are truly ugly smirks. He wins the ugly smirk prize.
Yeah, it seemed to me that he thought they got away with one. It was like he kept calling for time during the whole scrum and the the instant the Pitt player got a seconds control, the refs gave it to him. It was an awfully fast TO considering how the players were wrestlong for the ball.
