Do NOT expect an announcement tomorrow.

Scott Frost negotiation to me still strikes me odd. Coyle obviously made the right move to not give a 2 year deal. That would make us look SOOOO pathetic vs what the contract numbers are. I don't care what the numbers are. They will bear out eventually since Bees has said repeatedly, we have offered 2mm in the past and we will again for the right guy. SU is run by smart people and the BOT is structured with amazingly smart people who have an opinion here.

BUT, i still don't get how they got so far down the road that the contract length was not known in like minute 2 of the negotiation. Makes me wonder who played who in that deal. Maybe it was Frost's intention all along to go to UCF and was not up front w Coyle on this point.

I just hope we get serious after Sat night and land a Babers or Orgeron if that doesn't materialize. Losing this week of recruiting is going to be tough.

Makes perfect sense. But what happens if he targets someone who wins this weekend and has a bowl game to coach? Do we assume the new coach walks away from their team before their bowl or wait until January?
There is ZERO chance we'll wait until after a bowl game.

But, coaches regularly take jobs prior to bowl games. Difference between a conference championship and some meaningless bowl game. If it's going to be someone like Babers, I absolutely expect we'll hear an official announcement Sunday or Monday or maybe Tuesday next week.

Yes, I'm sure Coyle would force their hand to walk away before a bowl game. Typically, when a coach is playing in a bowl game, which is almost always when someone is being poached, they leave before said game. To wait until after the bowl game brings up a variety of issues such as a lag in recruiting, no guarantee they will EVEN still sign, a depleted pool of other options, etc.

When Marrone left us after the Pinstripe Bowl win, it really screwed Gross because it was so late in the coaching cycle. He really had no option, but to either promote Shafer or Hackett due to the timing and lack of options. We are in a completely different situation now. Coyle 100% has the ability to wait it out through the weekend. It seems to me that Ash would be a rush hire, so use him as a backup if these other HCs don't jump.

But yes, any new coach will have to be here as soon as their conference champ games are done. It would be a prereq if I were in Coyle's shoes.

Then I am clearly a moron, thought it was 1/2 years difference, I am obviously am not on twitter like the childrens of today.
Here is part deux:

Orgeron is way down the list and is likely headed to USC to be a DC or AHC for Clay Helton.

I will say with slight confidence that the majority of the coaches left in the queue are current HCs.

Looking more and more like it's Babers, who no longer has UCF as an option. It will be interesting to see if we get in a bidding war with teams like Rutgers or Maryland for his services.

What's the rush? Starting this weekend just go down the list.

1. Dino Babers, 54 (Bowling Green)
2. Jeff Brohm, 44 (Western Kentucky)
3. Lincoln Riley, 32 (Oklahoma OC)
4. Philip Montgomery, 43 (Tulsa)
5. Bobby Wilder, 51 (Old Dominion)
6. Todd Monken, 49 (Southern Miss)
7. Doc Holliday, 58 (Marshall)
8. Matt Luke, 39 (Ole Miss OC / AHC)
9. Mike Sanford, 33 (Notre Dame OC)
10. Sonny Cumbie, 34 (TCU Co-OC / QB Coach)

Coyle should take this list and take a couple days off. Come back fresh with your interviews lined up throughout the weekend into next week. Starting on Saturday - give Babers your best offer and go from there.

There are several legit candidates on that list. Pretty sure it's been "reported" that Riley has already said no to SU.

The only person I would add to this list would be Baldwin, but that is only because he is a personal favorite of mine.

I think it will be Babers, Montgomery or Ash.

That sound about right. By then, Ash might have better interest away in the B1G and other candidates may be gone as well, which would be fine with me. Then it would be Babers or bust.

If it's Babers or bust, against Maryland, I'll be very, very nervous.

It takes how long it takes. Mark Coyle is no dummy and it's not his first HC hire. We each have our preferences and none of us is privy to Marks thoughts on this hire. Right now we are only criticizing the rumors which is so funny in so many ways.
There is plenty of time to gripe after Coyle brings his guy on board. There is a good hoops game on tonight; so relax with a couple of cold ones and enjoy tonight's game. Go Orange!

If we don't hear anything today, can it be assumed that we are seriously interested in Babers and will be waiting until this weekend before finalizing anything?

I think that goes without saying.

I agree. This is why it is CRUCIAL that if, in fact, Coyle and Syverud want this guy, they better be willing to step up to the plate. That bidding war could get ugly with Maryland if Plank gets involved.

I have heard that Maryland really likes the Michigan d-coordinator and it might be a matter of convincing Locksley to stay on as o-coordinator. So maybe Maryland is not a competitor.

OH NO please don't do that Maryland! That would be such a blow to us

They are also interviewing Frank Reich ... have already interviewed Richt and there is one other candidate in the pipeline recently added which has yet to be named.

Things may have started to slow down a bit and Coyle may want to talk to a few of the coaches who can't speak until Saturday evening/Sunday morning.

:)
