Do people believe we are going to have a college basketball season(poll)

Is college basketball going to be played during the 2020-2021 season?

  • No the whole season will be cancelled

  • Yes it will be without crowds or severely reduced capacity

  • Yes it will be conference only games without crowds

  • Yes but the season will be less than full and an expanded NCAA tournament

Looks like the best course of action will be to huddle all the players, staff, and superfans in Manley and have a tickle party with a few COVID-positive folks and get it out of the way.

Yeah, except - Covid ain’t chickenpox.
There’s zero guarantee that getting it once, will preclude you from ever getting it again.

And it would be almost a given that some of the staff & superfans would get very sick.
And some might die.

This situation is fluid. A month ago having a full season seemed viable, but not anymore. And if the flare ups continue, coupled w/ schools opening which might trigger more outbreaks, who knows how things will look in 4-6 weeks?

There’s nothing selfish about wanting college aged kids to have their formative years ruined even more despite basically none getting sick or dying?

Yikes.
First, a 27 year old athlete from my town died of the virus. But more importantly and more likely, these athletes won't die form the virus. They might however, give it to their coach or coaches. They might give it to the refs who work their games. They might give it to their teachers. They might give it to their family. This isn't just about wanting to see college hoop. We will see it again. But it isn't worth having people die because we want to see games.

Why do folks always sidestep this very crucial point? When kids go back to school & they then get exposed to this virus, and anyone who has kids knows how they pick up little colds & allergies all the time, they then could take those back to their families- mother/father/grandparents. THAT’S the real issue, not whether the kids will survive it since they usually do- but how many others will be endangered because of it.

Thought his comments were worth discussing. Guess not.
Re: coach's comments--

I saw an interview with ND football coach Kelly on Dan Patrick this AM. He made a very interesting point.

Colleges have approached the situation in pretty much the opposite way that the NBA and NHL have. The pros brought their players from the outside into the bubble, where they will play out their seasons in, as far as can be achieved, medical safety.

The colleges' "bubble" is happening right now, as football and basketball players have been subjected to the medical protocols on mostly empty campuses. But the college athletes will have to leave their relative safety to go out and play games in a non-bubble situation. And that doesn't even account for the return of student bodies to campus, when social distancing will become a real problem.

So, the pros moved to a safer environment to play their games, and the college athletes will move to a much less safe environment to play theirs.

Reading about guys like Joe Burrow and Justin Fields last year - they never actually set foot on their campuses to take a class, all online. That being ridiculous aside, would that be part of the protocol for fall sport athletes?

Jimmy was a little more old school in his interview.

Burrow and Fields are two more indicators that "student-athlete" is a bogus term.
